A couple of weeks ago I bought a second hand v2 and on opening it up found that it's got the above mentioned tubes fitted. I know nothing about tweaking but having got a few ideas from this site thought I'd see what I could do. I believe these tubes are highly thought of and I'd be stupid to replace them. Is that right? I'd welcome advice please, Cheers, Richard

I'd welcome advice please, Cheers, Richard That is absolutely right. Telefunken E88CC are one of the best of this kind (probably the best). They are also rather expencive. So leave them there and look for some other possible upgrades of your new toy ....

Yup, nothing wrong with Telefunken and if they're working fine then no real reason to replace them UNLESS you want to roll in some different flavours or stock up on spares.

By the way, one pair of NOS Telefunken E88CC costs more than Musical Fidelity X-Can V2 on eBay

Well looks like I struck lucky. I was thinking I paid over the top (£90) but it seems I got areal bargain. Thanks for your comments.
