I got an X-can a while ago, but for some reason did not listen to it that much. Today, I noticed that when the volume knob is between 1 to 2 o'clock position, there is some noise, it is not obvious, but it is there. before 1o'clock and after 2 o'clock, there is no noise. I heard this noise when there is no music playing.
With the music on, I cannot hear the noise and the sound quality is absolutely amazing. The one I bought has tube and caps upgrades by the previous owner. I bought a Jamaco 1500mA power supply.
I am wondering what could go wrong. I swapped the tubes and noise is still there. I opened the case and did not see anything wrong. It seems that the some soldering points of the six legs of the volume pot are very close to each other, but I cannot tell if they are really connected.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

andychen Have you tried turning the potentiometer backward and forwards quickly, many times over, to see if this improves the problem ? SandyK

In my limited experience the first thing I would look at are the 220uF output caps, I would then look at the power supply and lastly the pot. First question..... why are you listening to nothing? I mean, why sit there turning the volco up listening to nothing? don't you have any music to listen to? Were you surprised when you heard a noise between 1 and 2 o' clock?..... did it make you dance? Sometimes there is an inherent, audible, "noise" in any amplifier and it will remain hidden (not affect the SQ) UNLESS you turn the music off and listen out for it. If it doesn't spoil the music then don't worry about it...... Not what you wanted to hear but the way it is sometimes
