N.B. The attached is meant to be humorous, but perhaps a sense of humour doesn't exist with many MAC users, when their choice of an O.S. is rubbished, even in jest ? SandyK www.pcauthority.com.au/Feature/92605,32-reasons-why-pcs-are-better-than-macs.aspx

I don't mind at all that PCs are as suceptible to things (viruses, spyware, hardware incompatibilities etc) as they are.... I'm a tech

Fair points dere, but threads like this tend to morph into faeces-flinging monkey tribe-wars pretty quickly. Jolly good fun

Looking forward to windows 7, will be just in time for my next system. Thinking refresh of the i7 (based on the nehalem architecture), 6gb ddr3, gfx-wise will see what's available then...

I take it you mean intel nehalem, in that case me to as that would mean time to upgrade to a new Mac Pro current rig only a quad core dual 2.66 xeon 8GB RAM 1.2TB XT1900 graphics and oh it runs windows nicely

As I understand it, nehalem is codename for this (currently just released) generation... ie i7 + refresh... I'll take a photo of my setup in the not too distant future... (it runs pretty well everything nicely )

no nehalem is the new intel multi core CPU flagship which has been long awaited, for gee wiz, a couple of years now. it's a departure from "current" architecture that favors multi threading, I understand MS have made many overtures to the bandwagon but i7 aka www.intel.com/technology/architecture-silicon/next-gen/index.htmis noting to do with that "other" OS I'm sure it'll run all multi threaded OS's well even that windows thing

Yes, I agree with everything you've said... and all my posts can be read as such (when I say 'this' generation... I mean the new one that is just out) (first post edited for readability)

To be honest I am surprised Windows works at all considering it has to be compatible with who knows what PC,a PC that conforms to no true hardware standard other than a loose compatibility rule and with whatever external crap you have a desire to plug in. Imagine you are an engine company and you make only ONE engine and that engine needs to not only bolt into any car the purchaser desires but to pull whatever you put it in no matter the size or wight or gear ratio or if you have a trailer attached or.......... The Mac OS on the other hand is written for a SINGLE KNOWN platform and so can be considered not as an OS as much as it is part of a unified closed system which is obviously a far easier task than writing for an unknown and trying to foresee EVERY potentiality before it even is realised and that in a nutshell is my problem with Apple in general.Everything they make is proprietary (Mac,iPod,iPhone)and you either use their machine or go somewhere else. Imagine if that same company outlook applied to other things so for instance you had a to buy "chevy" gas if you want to drive a chevy car or you had to buy a "CBS" Cd player if you wanted to play a Columbia Records CD or you had to purchase a separate TV for each TV station you wanted to view...... Nope. While I like the products I have no respect for the company so will likely never own or use a single Apple product ever ever ever

Hmmm, why would you want to run Windows ? Could it be the pathetic lack of software support, due to perhaps Mr. Job's business practises ? Things like, perhaps demanding that the software be supplied exclusively to such a minor player in the computer world ? Let's see how Apple fares when it's shiny little toys are no longer affordable to the Clearasil crowd, and those that haven't grown up ! SandyK

I was of course referring to their hand held playthings, not their Desktop and Notebook computers. Let's see how well , Apple as a company, fares when their mass market shiny little toys (gadgets/ mind candy for a bored generation) are no longer affordable due to economic conditions. Can they survive mainly on their computer sales ? After all, even the mighty GMH is in danger of collapse in the U.S.A .

Hey guys, it is a non-argument. We all get our work done, and if we don't, the PC/MAC is seldom the problem. I LOVE both of my macs, but my dell at work hasn't let me down either. I think we all need both, just to appreciate everything available.

now, I can talk about both worlds .... M$ Windows vs. Apple OS X, Linux (different distribution's), Unix after about 14 years of working with DOS, WfW 3.11, Windows 95/98, W2k, XP, Server 2003/2008, Exchange, MS SQL, etc. I went to MAC OS X for me at home ;D my convincement now the UNUX/LINUX are the better kernals as Windows, but I use some M$ Software on Mac too
