Total Re-write due to trying to "walk and chew gum" at the same time (was distracted and yet thought I could post in a lucid manner-WRONG !)
Anyway,I find the idea of using an X-Box or better yet a PS3 as wireless server/dedicated disc player interesting it being more of a one stop than other methods under consideration with my former Main PC/Dedicated Audio PC slave a bit more unweidly I think than this :

What it comes down to is using the Sony PS3 as the main server.OK.It has Blue-Ray capability built in,can play games, has built in wireless, has a built in hard drive with the oppurtunity to add on even larger drives,is NOT ugly so won't be (or at least shouldn't be) out of place amongst dedicated "above average consumer grade" AV gear but still,it IS a gaming platform right ?
Well....maybe.Looking into the software link provided in the above article, the "TVersity" FREE Media Server software it can be said that not only can the PS3 become a full blown Media Client but hell, since the software supports UPnP / DLNA Devices there are not a whole lot of limits on what CAN be hooked up (see list)
tversity.com/support/devices/
the format support IS fairly extensive
tversity.com/download/features/
So once I nail down the audio for EVER :
Media Player-Foobar 2000/WinAmp/WMP
Audio Driver-Kernal Streaming or ASIO
Data Stream-USB or straight SPDIF>Reclocker>PCM DAC
I can concentrate solely on the how and why of getting everything flowing and this is at least another possible
