most sound cards suck so no amount of EQ can do anyting more than change the way the "suck" sounds
I use EQ/Tone controls/Filters in my home system but only to correct limitations in the recording itself (way too much crap mixed to sound good on boom boxes/shitty home systems) or for recording my own mixes,NOT to make up for system limitations that if present can only be bettered with a toal upgrade of the weak link.
In my own personal opinion even bottom feeder entry level USB DACS better the majority of the soundcards that come stock in home computers and is a low cost way to update the SQ without resorting to a high cost "pro" level sound card but only for stereo.If you need multichannel it is gonna cost...............
