Hello I am a long time monitor of this forum, yet have not posted before. Thanks everyone for all the inspirational input. I have a X-10D that I modded a few years ago according to this :http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/x10dcap.htm I also made a new power supply according to this: www.rock-grotto.co.uk/x-psu.htmA gentleman on another forum suggested replacing all the resistors with Tantalum types, but it seemed expensive and I did not go this far. The same chap stated that his favourite tubes for the X-10D were the ECC85, so I went a bought an NOS set of Telefunkens - great. Recently my X-10D has started to loose its edge and now sounds muffled. I have left the X-10D on 24/7 for a couple of years so this is not surprising. My first question is what is the current preferred tube type of members here, and where can I get them? My second question is how does the V3 compare to the original? I understand that the tubes last a long long time on the V3, so this may be a solution. Now that kits are supplied here, the modding of these units is much simpler, so I don't mind doing another one. Thanks in advance. P.S. I know that these questions have been asked here before. I thought that there was no harm in providing an update.

Russian 6H23-P are a firm favourite of mine in the X-cans and my X10D when I had it. Take another look on Mike's website under 'accessories' or contact him. A search on Ebay normally finds a few NOS pairs if Mike doesn't have any left, I've noticed they're getting scarce. There are other equivalent 'audiophile' types but the 6H23's take some beating in my view, and they are cheaper

Thanks, I will look some up.
Any views on Original X-10D vs V3 version?

Never used a V3, but others may well be able to comment.

HI, A TUBE FAILURE AFTER 2 YEARS OF BEING ON 24/7, IS ABOUT RIGHT, I WOULD NOT SUSPECT ANY "FAULT" BEING PRESENT IN YOUR X10-D. ---------ALL THE BEST-----ALVIN.
