Well I have done the research on DTV "broadcast" converterds and have settled on the LG-Zenith rebranded DTT900
Why ?
1-Well I am one that wants my "add-ons" to NOT dominate the shelf but to just do what they are there for then get the fk out of my way so the footprint of the device was a factor.
2-I also want a low profile but not butt ugly look or it will stand out amongst the other AV gear, again not a thing that sits well with me in what is no more than a simple "TV Converter Box"
3-Tests out well-FCC tests
fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=152155&fcc_id='BEJ9QKE00710
4-Is available off the shelf from my local Radio Shack
5-Is dirt cheap @ $60 (charter member of Team Cheap Bastard )
6-PLENTY of detaled tear down/eval reports on the net so it is not a "blind" purchase by any means (google it )
7-the chipset is the same one used in more feature laden designs (my opinion is we get far too many unusable features and way too little quality in modern consumer electronics but that is just me). This tell me I can add the ONE ESSENTIAL feature I see the device is lacking ;A DTS out
having already decided on a DTV broadcast antenna months ago I am surprised it took this long to nail down the receiver but to be honest information has been sparse until recently so choosing a device more of a "buy and try" proposition. Now that we have tear down reports and some actual tests-evaluations the decision process is much easier and I should have this puppy in house in the next week or so

The Insignia
Should make for a nice package once I build an "add-on" base stabiliser for the antenna and add a direct digital-audio output on the receiver (and maybe some other tweakery )
