So, it turns out the 702 is the same as the 701, but in blue and with a detachable cord. Fair enough, and it seems the 701 will continue to be made. I kind of liked the white-gray design of the 701, but the new blue looks cool. The detachable cord will make cable modding/swapping a lot easier. www.akg.com/site/press_center/powerslave,id,163,nodeid,0,_language,EN,nodeid,33.html Cheers Steffen.

As AKG fan (and I live in Austria, near Vienna; the AKG manufactory are in Vienna) - I hope I can hear one soon AKG tells me - the K701 are for consumer - but some audio professional use them - so the K702 created for professional user.

I like the look of those. Hopefully the three pin plug on the cable is a standard easily available type.
Anybody know the euro price tag on the 702?

3 pin plug.... Looks like XLR I wish! they are using a common ground. I wished that AKG would stop the practice of using the frame to carry the common ground from the side to side. When I re-cabled my K501 I asked for dual side entry which is not ergonomically the nicest but it was the most elegant way to avoid the frame to carry the ground. Not having tried the AKG's myself... The frame is metal and is being used as the ground? The two frame rails must be hollow to run the + to the other side. are they?

Yes the rail is hollow and the wire is inside. Both rails are hollow? One rail has a wire inside already, probably the + for the speaker. Is the other rail hollow? And it doesn't use a wire inside, just the rail is used for ground? If both rails are hollow, and they use a XLR plug. you could rewire the headphones for single wire in each rail. the XLR plugs are available in 3, 4, or 5 pin arrangements. www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=srch&search=xlr&option=and&list=0&pg=7&sort=code
