Newby with frazzled transformers

Hello all, please forgive a new guys' dumb mistakes but... My original stock valves went all hissy on me in an X-Can V2. So I trawled the ???bay looking for a new set. I'd read the valve tasting test on this great site 
, but was swayed by some nice rockets at a silly cheap price.
So... The ???bay dude said in the listing they're good for replacing ecc88's so I went for them 6N1P-EB (cool rocket symbol on 'em). stuck 'em in plugged it in good for an hour then, nothing little red
light goes out. I check the transformer, it's dead. No problem, I assume the wires have broken use it as a excuse to get a new one. I buy a new 1 amp wall wart (same as the one in the "good and cheap ... PSU" page on the site). Plays for an hour then nothing
