OK, before I start I'd like to show my credentials.
When it comes to headphones, I'm new and experienced. I could not see the point in spending more than £20 on a pair.
Thats now changed. I found this site when I was looking to improve my Btech 928. Any way, after reading the guide here, it sounds unbelievably better (tone out, op3124 in). Its had a good burn in, and I'm currently typing this listening to the New Goldfrappe album, drowning in fantastic lush vocals and sound from a pair of Philips SBCHP200-billynomates headphones that I would never have believed.
Anyway, about a day before I joined here, I ordered a pair of Zalman ZMDS4F 'portable' headphones. I wanted a cheap pair to use at work, using my laptop as source. Zalman make good cooling equipment for PCs, and as the price was right (£12), I ordered them.
After burn in, they are much better than the Philips mentioned above. Cleaner hi's and a better controlled bottom end, with details being shown that I've not heard before.
As I've mentioned, I know nothing of headphones, and was wondering If anybody had the chance to listen to a pair, and give an educated response, giving me (the newbie headphone boy ) a benchmark.
The phones are in constant use, or I would offer to send them out.
The future, headphone wise, holds excitement for me. At home a jaycar headamp, if I can get my hands on a kit, with plenty of playing about under the lid! Also a better pair of 'phones, probably the goldring dr150 to start with.
Work will see a Pimeta based amp, supplied by a usb dac. The dac is a must, as the lineout is a noisy as a bar!
All will be self build of course
