... headphones. They had twin angled drivers in each earpiece. I occasssionally see the K280 come up for sale, which I think had a retail of £90/100.
They were highly reviewed back anon, but seem to have disappeared. Was the 280 the top model? Were they any good?
As I wasn't into using 'phones back then I have no experience of them.

Hi yes i have a pair of about 20yrs vintage, although they still look as good as new, and sound ok. IMO they were probably quite good in there day but compared to my 701s they seem quite dull and over warm, but they do have a very nice sound stage, probably due to the placement of the 4 drive units, i must have a soft spot for them as they are still with me, which cant be said for a few other headphones i have owned.

Since you mentioned them cjarchez i have been giving the 280s another outing, and i tell you what ive changed my mind. Driven by my TLAudio Fatman amp they really have come alive, dull and warm not any more, very similar to the 701s with a shade more bass, and percussion music, drums, cymbals etc comes across very well. Will see how they perform on my modded V3 next.

Just received a pair, good nick, just a tad grubby, the pads are on the washing line now! Plugged them in, padless, to check all was well. 100% ok I've only med. quality MP3 here, played straight from the laptop, so any first impressions on SQ aren't of any real value. They'll be mainly up against the 701 which I am still undecided on... Via xcanv2/elna/pinkie, Ming Da 66 and if the post man can be arsed to deliver my JLH & PSU I may get to build the Jaycar too

Thats great cjarchez, did you get them for a good price?, would like to know what you think of them, when you have tried them properly, i think i still prefer my 701s but its a close call. New pads can be obtained from AKG K-240/270/271/280 POLSTER at www.thomann.de. for EUR 5.3 each plus postage. Got my 701s from them, and the service was excellent.Thought of having a go at the Jaycar myself with all the mods that have been specified in the threads when i can make head or tail of what is required, a Mikes upgrade kit would be great for a novice like me, as i managed to upgrade my V3 with out any problems, although it did take me all day, but managed to do a pukka job. Enjoy your K280s.

Thanks for the pointer on the pads. Price was ok, E36. (£28?)
I agree a Mike-Jaycar -Kit ("Pinkies MJK"...has a ring) would be ace, but as he's had rather a lot going on recently we'll have to be patient. In the meantime I'll crack on with as much as I can decifer, then hopefully fully mod it later.

Blimey they were a bargain, a lot of replacement earpads cost more than that, well done hope you enjoy them.

Didnt notice those cjarchez, would like to try them myself, there reasonably priced and look similar to the ones on my 701s, which are very comfortable and feel nice.

Story so far...
Sound better to my ears on the MIng Da, a tad thrashey on the V2, certainly murder my old HD560s, different level entirely, nearer K701 standards. (Seems to be a pattern here, me-AKG-valves, OR me-Senn-V2). I'll get round to finishing the Jaycar once all parts are in....
heliharris, did you try those velor pads?
