I just got the X-Can V8. Strange how I got this before everyone else..
It runs on a littlie pinkie v3i, and powers AKG K 701 headphones. It is using computer as source via USB. USB is bi-directional correcting, so jitter should be minimal, and USB cable type(I use a very cheap one), should not make a difference; but who am I?.
Anyways.
1) On USB as source, not tried a external CD player, there seems a bit lack of volume. But I guess its the USB which has low volume by default, even though computer is set at full volume. I use it at 3/4 on the volume-dial.
2) The volume-dial is the best I have ever tried. Opinions are just like assholes, everyone has one, but I don't agree with the critics. It really has a nice feel to it.
3) The bass on the X-can v8 using the AKG K 701 is a little bit more defined than X-can v3
4) It seems a little better sounding over all, spatial presentation is also a little better, compared to the V3.
I am happy I got this as it is a little better, and has a built in DAC. Very little clutter!! but well... Rudistor I guess is better? It was not a big revelation compared to the V3 in my ears. It has been on for the last 15hours.
How do I add pictures on this forum? I tried, but I dont manage..

i had the same problem when I first tried, Mike sent this... The best way is to upload your images to somewhere like photobucket (or anywhere online) all you have to do then is right click on the image and copy the URL where it says address (ie: highlight the URL, right click and then choose "copy") you then make a post here and that image url is placed between the image tags..... see: MFX cans etc section, "Another Elna job, xcans v2" EDIT, rockgrotto.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=q&action=display&thread=2184&page=1#22565 « Last Edit: Mar 26, 2008, 9:46pm by PinkFloyd »

It really sounds a bit sharp.... hmm.
'screeching' in the ears on high vocals etc. Do you guys think it is the tubes, will a tube swap help, or is it the transistor amplifier stage??
DAC should have been a bit better, sad, but well well... its one less box on the desk, and it looks nice.
Will further break-in help on this? The V3 was not this 'sharp' sounding...

I would suggest you let it settle for sometime before you do any changing
Try leaving it one for at least 2 weeks (500 hours) and then report back. 15 hours is not time at all for anything to settle.

My experience is just the opposite with the X-CAN v8. It makes my HD580/600s sound more reserved and muffled, not at all bright - just the opposite of the v3, when I had it. And... the POT has to be set to about 3 o'clock to get the Senns to perform - also the opposite of the v3. My 25 ohm D5000s on the other hand sound phenomenal with the v8 at 12 oclock - even though they're much less efficient than the Senns. See my comments at: www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/musical-fidelity-x-canv8-321995/#post4160345MF has obviously made some major changes to the X-CAN - almost ruining it with the Senns, but making it perform a lot better with low impedence phones. While the v3 was fair competition for the Solo, the Solo "leaves the v8 in the dust" - by a fair margin... just no comparison with the Senns! On the other hand, the v8 "leaves the Solo in the dust" with the D5000s. What design changes would make this difference between the v3 and v8? It's pretty dramatic.

Also...
Does the "Little Pinkie v3i" mate with the v8?
Will it give it more power to drive Senns and high impedence phones well, at lower POT settings?

Gave up on it - sent it back for a refund.
I'd avoid the amp, until MF announces they've updated it to resolve the problem.

Perhaps manufacturers should give a list of headphones that are known to perform well with their gear, and invite, or make it possible for more people to listen before buying ?

That's the reason why one must try a product before purchase as no amount of technical specs can tell you what to expect! Luckily you have a money back quarantee. So no loss but for the exeperience! Btw, Sandyk, I'm not jabbing at you but to tell my zen experience here.
