My father has in in hands the X-DAC V8 and CD player combo. He's over the moon compared ot his old Meridian 206 which died the death on him a few weeks ago. I got a call this morning - he was up until late listening last night, and I assume he's been listening all morning ! "Feck ... brilliant ... bass ... balanced ... detail .... warmth not cold ... " ramble ramble I shall have to arrange for him to come visit soon so we can have a listen with my gear Does anyone know waht power supply the V8 uses ... is it 24V, and would the pinkie V3 work with it? just thinking ahead to birthday presents.

I saw the internal of the V8 thru Hifi Hews and it seemed that they had just incorporated the tube stage of the X-10D into it. From that write up, it seemed the AC PC is now changed to a 6 pins type meaning they had probably split the analogue and digital stages to be driven by 2 separate secondary windings for better sound as is common practice now for most dacs to remain competitive. Chances are high it's still at 12 VAC. So maybe can use 2 Pinkies to drive it. Of course it has a USB dac connection to compete with the rest. However, that is only a lower rez 48 kHZ 16 bit dac. Please confirm with MF.

Not according to this Mr. Stallion........ Click to view full size. From this we can deduce it must have it's own onboard PSU considering you just whack an IEC mains lead into the rear of the beast ;D

So the increase number of pins are for only connection to the MF tuner and cd player.

Yup .... kettle lead in .. power out from the DAC. Which begs the question what the external PSU that's being sold is for? I guess to power the CD player as standalone .. err assuming it has an analogue out, as they seem to be sold in pairs with the DAC.
So the V8 DAC is a comination of X-DAC V3, X-10V3 and X-PSU basically!

So the V8 DAC is a comination of X-DAC V3, X-10V3 and X-PSU basically! I believe there are 2 versions of the latest X-PSUs. One is the lower VA version and the other the 170 VA version. Sorry, I had forgoten what they call the V8 X-PSU as it had been some time since I saw them in the mag. Is it Triple X or something? I love XXX the movie and I believe I'm right as I roughly remember it have to do with a well known movie. Yup, X-Dac V3, X-10D and maybe the new Triple X transformer. Definitely not the 170 VA version.
