Hello dear experts and enthusiasts, I'm new to your ranks but loving my recently modded QED MB-45.
So now I'm looking for recommendations for £200 closed back headphones. I require closed back as I listen at work and don't want to disturb my colleagues.
I currently have a set of Audio Technica ATH-500's which were originally a revelation compared to the kind of budget headphones I was using before, but now I'd like to step it up to the next level.
My amp is a QED MB-45, which I think would suit a reasonably high impedance headphone. I find with the QED and my ATH-500s that its hard to get the volume right. At lower listening levels I find the detail missing, but more than a fractional increase of the dial and they get a bit loud for my ears.
Comfort is also important, its not unusual for me to wear my headphones all day long. In this respect I really can't fault the ATH-500s.

Check out the Ultrasone HFI-780 I have listened to it stock and now modified using the ALO Jena 18g cable. Both are enjoyable to me. mrarroyo has them and here is another take on them: www.head-fi.org/forums/3935543-post1119.htmlFor work you can also check out the ATH-ESW9. Which is another headphone that you may want to put on your list. I had this one and it is another one that is very enjoyable.

You could also give the dirt cheap Sony MDR-7506 a shot.A tad bassy but otherwise not too shabby if you have an amp that can drive 60 ohm cans

Damn guys ! Around these parts you can get a package deal of like five pairs of the V6/7506 for like $200 but you have to go out of the "hi Fi" arena and into the "pro" market where dollars mean a lot more than they do to an audiophile. For instance. It is not unusual to see an enthuiast pay $200 for a 1 meter interconnect with craptastic RCA plugs on both ends but in the pro arenan ? Better be a fkn multi-connect snake with a diameter of your closed fist for that much green and if it EVER fails under normal use (read abuse) someone is in big damn trouble 'cause time is money

Cheers guys lots of great suggestions there and plenty for me to research.
I have to admit I am very tempted by the ATH-W1000 as I know and trust the brand, and know they would be comfortable to wear all day long.
There is a chap selling them on ebay.co.uk for £210 but imported from Japan so there's always the risk of getting stung with customs charges. I've been lucky in the past with customs but you can never discount the chance of getting stung for 30%.
