My Grados have recently taken a turn for the worse...... I bought a set of GS thousands about 8 months ago new off of ebay (yeah I know, I probably deserve what I got) at a discounted price compared to the sky high £1000 "official" retail price in the UK. Ever since new I've noticed a resonance in the R/H channel with strong bass during quieter passages, which I couldn't pinpoint. Well, the other day I noticed the metal mesh which sits in the centre of the outer face of the wooden transducer housing for the R/H channel was bloody loose and detatched. No wonder I was getting resonance! The mesh is fitted before the transducer itself is fitted to the wooden housing and cannot be removed without stripping the unit down, which isn't something I want to try for fear of damaging something (the inner cover I would have to remove first appears to be bonded/ glued to the housing). At the same time this happenned, the metal R/H capsule bracket (the "o" shaped one that the wooden capsule slots inside of) detatched itself from the metal adjuster rod that you use to vary the size of the headband. I have looked after these headphones and not abused them. For their cost- even discounted, I am not impressed with the build quality or quality control. I e-mailed the ebay seller who told me when I purchased them that I could return them to him if they misbehaved, and needless to say have heard nothing back. The headphones have a 12 month warranty but without an original bill of sale, I can't return them to Grado for warranty repair and Grado do not approve of sales other than via approved dealers- ie, not ebay! So I guess I'll have to pay to get 'em fixed out of my own pocket. I'm not after sympathy here guys, I'm sure a good many of you who read this will think "serves you right" and to a point, I understand your point of view.
