Cheers mrarroyo. Any opinions on the different types of cable Larry uses? Which sounds best with Grados?
I'm still undecided about the tape mod. I don't think overall it's better with all recordings. Still, at 69p for a roll of black electrical insulation tape you can't complain.

Is there a big sound quality difference between the RS1 & RS2's?

Having used them both I would largely agree with Miguel.
For some music the RS-2 is in fact preferable but overall you would be happy with either unless you are sitting there doing a back to back comparison.
Whether the RS-1 justifies the extra money is over to you.
Both are better than my SR-225'S but for me it was difficult in my opinion to justify either at UK prices but then again I had already bought my 225's(with flats).

I would say that the RS2 give you about 90% of the RS1. However it is a bit different sound that some prefer over the RS1. I have had both side by side for months and I sold the RS2. Another option you may want to consider is the MS Pro. Those who have compared it w/ the RS1 have been very impressed, many prefere the MS Pro. have you any experience with how the 325i sound in comparison to the RS2 or RS1? I like the fact that Grado's can work with portables ... not at their best - but prefrable to the senns 650s which need an amp to drive them. So while I prefer the HD650s on my home set up, I also have the 325i to take with me on stays away for home, and Shure 4Cs for on a plane or train etc. If the RS grados offer a potential replacement for both the HD650 and the 325i I may be tempted to have a listen at least (err when I have cash available). BTW - what's this tape mod?

To my ears the 325i sounded over bright with a particularly piercing treble compared with the 225,RS-1 RS-2.

Tape mod - place electrical insulation tape around the outside of the bowl pad. Deepens & darkens the sound, more bass.

I must confess to have never tried bowls - I bought them with the flats fitted.
