Hi, I have an Arcam Alpha 7se CD player, Arcam Alpha 8 integrated amp and have just purchased a Musical Fidelity X-cans v2 headphone amp off Ebay.
I am looking to purchase a set of headphones for around 100 pounds, my sister is going to the US soon so I was going to ask her to purchase me a pair of Grado sr60, 80 or 125's after reading so many good reviews.
I was also considering the Sennheiser HD595's which are 85 pounds from amazon, or maybe a pair of second hand HD600's.
I will be using the cans to listen to indie type music and to watch films.
I would appreciate your ideas on which headphones you think would go best with my equipment

you may want to look at the future sonic atrio. i keep hearing good things about them but they are IEM. roaddog is supposed to be selling them for like $130 US if you call them and ask them for that price.
oh and there's these goldring dr150s too... people like them

I would suggest you first listen to a Grado before you purchase one. Many do not like its agressive interpretation, also IMO the Grado's need a tube to tame the energetic treble.

The problem is not the can, it is the fit of the can on your head. There is no way that we can honestly tell you what is best as your head has a different shape than ours (no joke). Even pressing a headphone 1mm closer to the ear creates a completely different sound balance, perhaps even greater than the difference between brands............ Sennheiser, Beyer, Grado, AKG are the names that keep coming up and should be on your shortlist of cans to try

grado's suck honestly. only the deaf like 'em. stay away from etymotic too. You will burn at the stake! Grado and Etymotic are the best, ;D the rest are just cheap imitaions.

Hi thanks for the advice, I was too lazy to listen to any headphones so I ordered the Goldring DR150's after reading the thread posted on the forum and a couple of other reviews. I'll deffinately be removing those sellotaped bits of cloth behind the grills as recomended by Mike.
