clk230 Convert the 100GBP to USD, then send mrarroyo a PM. Miguel seems to have the greatest general knowledge about different headphones. He is a walking headphone encyclopedia ! SandyK

A lot depends on the sound you like, and only you can make that call after you have listened to a few cans. Also to get the most for your money buy used cans provided you either trust the seller or can inspect them. Some possibilities are:
1. Sennheiser HD580 or HD600. 2. Grado SR-225: This is a very polarizing can that some love and many hate. Easy to get used for about $160 in the USA but hard in the EU. 3. Goldring DR150 4. Equation RP21 5. Audio Technical makes a couple of very nice closed cans from $100 to $200 6. Denon DH2000, another polarizing can that not everyone likes 7. AKG K501, a wonderful unit IMO better thatn the HD580 or the HD600
See if you have a shop close by that sells cans and allows you to try them. Otherwise go to a meet to listen to various cans and then buy used.
5. Ultrasones PROline 2500 (this will be tough but doable if you wait)

Make sure you give the HD595s a listen. I love mine and they are regarded as an excellent all round can.
I paid £75 off ebay for a new pair.
Two people that have heard mine (non audiophiles admittedly) have litterally had their jaws drop open while listening to the ultrasone test CD and that was from a Panasonic portable into a cmoy amp.

clk230, component synergy is to some a key component. If taking your amp to their shop is not to much of a hassle then do so. Just as important is to take a cd or two that you are intimately familiar w/ to judge the cans. If you take the cd's might as well take your HD480 so you can judge how much better the new can is. Finally take your ICs as well. That would be a very big bag you will walking into the shop with.

For the Ultrasone 2500s, check iheadphones. I'm pretty sure they carry them.
