Y' all have to hear this show. Trust me, it's legal. It's so perfect, to me, it should be used as reference material. Thats how sweet sounding it is. Picture yourself 15-20 rows back, smack freaking dab in the center Anyone wanna?

LOL, forgot that little tidbit of info.
Its' the Grateful Dead form 3-23-87. It is an audience recording from the lip of the soundboard. I was overcome from it and it's probably a little farther back, but not much. It sounds so good I thought it was a matrix recording, which is when they combine the soundboard and audience recordings. It literally has to be one of the best recordings I have heard.
Even if you don't like the Dead, I suggest you don't let that scare you off and give it a listen.

Hampton was buzzin' from the previous night's show, and the crowd was more than ready for the second post-coma East Coast show. I recall feeling a sense of familiarity washing through the parking lot crowd this day...like a "we're back" feeling. It was very mellow, and a happy day. Once again, we entered the venue hours before showtime, mostly to secure a piece of real estate for the taping rig, but also again to explore all the nooks and crannies of the coliseum...that place has some really cool (and hot) spots if you are in the right place at the right time...during the show there are some VERY intense places to be.....same as most shows I suppose. Anyway, this show, to me, was one of those warmup feeling sets, almost like they were picking up on what songs were gonna get worked out on this tour...ya gotta remember, Jerry was still very much reworking his chops, so this version of the Grateful Dead was a group on the mend...but still trying to forge ahead....and pretty much succeeding. I remember this show had a few highlights, the first of course was the Touch of Grey opener with it's I will survive" cry. The East Coasters were gonna shout that one out from on high. We got a bouncy Iko in the middle of set 1, and, well, you give it a listen. There were no surprise breakouts, no real unifying mind meld crescendos (Not til the Terrapin on the next night!), but this was a really well-played show. I am not much for reviewing a show, as each one is as unique to each individual...
Many thanks to Jamie & Rich for their fine work in getting this old analog snapshot of history into the public realm.

So it's a live recording into the public realm ... but where does one find it? A link would be good.

www.shnflac.net . Alittle while ago they had to limit it to 10,000 members. So if you cant join on the first try keep trying, I forget how often they prune anyone who hasn't signed in for something like 100 days. Right now it's showing 9992 members. They don't sahre your email addy with anyone, so no need to worry about spam. Edit: I should mention in case someone is thinking about joining, but doesnt want to just to see what they offer, that the majority is GD, but they also offer plenty jazz and blues and other rock. For instance they have a Miles Davis project going on right now. Since the tapes are getting so old, they are preserving them to the digital domain. No telling what may show up on there. An example would be I have some Parliment, or War, I foget, and have it on a sereate hard drive thats not hooked up. Anyhow, some1 ran across the actual session tapes from the recording studio, at a garage sale.
