Hi folks. I am auctioning a modified MF X-Can (mark 1) with custom PSU, based on the various Rock Grotto mods*. Apologies if this isn't appropriate for this section - I read the rules and I think it is okay but if not, please accept my apologies. If it's okay, this auction starts at 99p and runs until next Sunday (22nd). Picture: tinyurl.com/2s2y3mSpec: NOS Mullards (Mil spec) Uprated caps (Elna) Uprated op-amps Case vents (two on top, one at rear) Uprated replacement rear RCA inputs Blue LED ...and an external PSU based on the PF/Rock Grotto design, which has currently one output header but a secondary is available (would need a bit of user DIY). Here's the link: tinyurl.com/yrxnlzThanks, John * this is my second such X-Can - the first was a v2 which Pink Floyd of this very site created for me, but I sold that one and ultimately regretted it, hence this one. Which is being sold as once again I don't really listen enough with headphones to justify keeping it, sadly.

No problems at all with that John but thanks for asking. How's it going down in Burntisland? I'm way up north now in Caithness and loving every moment of it. You're the guy who gave me the bag of jelly beans IIRC?
Mike.

Yeah, that's right! Burntisland's fine, I really like it here (though at the moment there's a whole lot of tourist action going on, so it's quite busy). Why'd you move up to Caithness? That's a bit of a change of scene, I'd say!
I feel a bit guilty as this is a great head amp but I just don't listen enough. I sold the original one for that reason, then we had a baby boy last year and I thought: 'time for a new headphone rig', bought one but yet again find that I'm not using it as much. I'm trying to downscale my system generally, so I thought I'd list it.
By the way, good price for your X-Can v2 last week - I found it purely by coincidence when I was checking out what to expect. Doubt I'll get that for mine even with PSU but fingers crossed, eh? :-)

Yeah, that's right! Burntisland's fine, I really like it here (though at the moment there's a whole lot of tourist action going on, so it's quite busy). Why'd you move up to Caithness? That's a bit of a change of scene, I'd say! Fife became too crowded, it's a LOT nicer up here John and the people are so welcoming and friendly.... very down to earth and easy going I found the people in Crail to be pretentious bastards and couldn't wait to move as far away as possible from the place, a small minded bunch of pretentious assholes. You see all 4 seasons in a day here, birds of prey, stunning scenery, empty roads.... if it wasn't for the midges I'd call it paradise.... don't knock it till you've tried it John, it's great going back to real living far away from all that makes modern living the fate worse than life itself it is. Don't feel guilty mate, that's what ebay is there for Actually, when you think about it it was about right on the money. A stock v2 will sell for around £130 on ebay, if you think about all the work, the parts etc. then £90 on top is pretty damned cheap... I even supplied 2 pairs of valves one of them being a brand new pair of 6H23N-EB..... nice sounding unit though and the guy is very happy with her. It would help your auction if you took a few pics of the inside of the amp.... it's not entirely clear it's an X-CANS there was no such thing as a v1 just an X-CANS, maybe best to make it absolutely clear it's an X-Cans. A good ad and well worded... stress the importance of the PSU that comes with it and you should come close to the £200 mark (maybe more depending who's bidding) If it had been a v2 then I would say it should fetch £230 - £250 with the PSU. The X-CANS always fetches a lower price than the v2 on ebay, I don't know why as it's a bloomin' fantastic amp and well worth £130 in stock guise. Good luck, I'll keep an eye on the auction. Mike.

If you could change "Musical Fidelity X-Can with 'Rock Grotto' mods" to:
"Musical Fidelity X-Can based on the 'Rock Grotto' mods" it may be a tad more accurate description... just as long as the bidder realises that I didn't mod this unit nor supply the kit.... my mods do not include 85C Starget caps or OPA2134 so an even more accurate description could be:
"Musical Fidelity X-Can partially based on the 'Rock Grotto' mods"
I'm not being pedantic John, some guy last year won an amp and it started smoking when he turned it on.... I get's this e-mail from an irate man threatening to sue me.... I was like " eh?? what are you on about??" he posted a link to the auction........
"MF X-CAN v2 modded by PinkFloyd of Rock Grotto"
I'd never seen this amp and was fascinated to learn I'd modded this amp using only the "finest black gate capacitors on the planet" and "other top performance parts"..... the seller admitted the mods were "based" on those seen at my website and put all the rest of the bullshit down to a "typo" ;D
Just as long as it's clear I have never set eyes on this amp John.
Mike.

Hi Mike,
Hear what you're saying. I think I'm clear in the listing that it wasn't actually modded by yourself but I'm unable to change the listing as I already have a couple of bids. I'll add an extra note at the bottom to make it crystal clear.
