That's one way of doing it, but the faulty component could then take out your new components! Use your meter with it switched off, and see if any of the transistors are short circuit. Even better would be to try checking the base- emitter voltages as I suggested previously. This assumes you are able to determine which connections are which. Try Googling for the devices, and the manufacturers data sheets will tell you which is which. SandyK

Will do - looks like Im gonna need TIP110's and TIP115's- I will confirm tonight when I test- I may have to get one of you to help by sending some - we will work out payment somehow, as I cannot source them in NZ ! None here closest is Australia and I would have to buy a Min quanity of them. For the other 2 transistors that should have cost peanuts it ended out costing me $30NZ (equil to 10 pounds) for the min quanity and then the freight that they charged me.

marcm09 I would have to buy a min 5 of each from RS components for around AU$20 then add (from memory) AU$12 delivery. So I wouldn't be much better off than you . Have you tried W.E.S. Components (Sydney) ? They stock both those devices. Try Farnell (Aus.) they sell in single quantities, with a minimum credit card order of AU$10. +10% GST ? Check their website. Their prices are competitive too. Alex

marcm09 Did you check out the Farnell (Aust) site ? Just buy enough to get over the minimum AU$10 credit card amount.( + P and P). They only have 20 of one of those still in stock, so I suggest you check soon. Not much solid state stuff uses Darlington transistors these days, though. I did check the Jaycar catalogue, and DSE is getting out of that kind of stuff to become a JB HI-FI "clone". Alex
