In the X-CAN V2 there are two transistors of the type: C3788. Does anybody know where these trans can be bought ? Replacement ?

I was having a dig through my musical parts bin today and found a Vol.knob for the xcan which I reckon is just right! (think it's a tone control off a Marshall)

PinkFloyd sells both a 'Elna' value kit and the Panasonic kit for the X-can V2.
Which of these should I choose? The Elna is alot cheaper, and as far as I have understood, the Elna and Panasonic kit is exactly the same except that the caps are Elna brand in the first one?? Can anyone confirm this?
I want a sharp sounding amp, with the most details, the Elna is said by PF to be warmer, but does that mean lack of details / muddy? compared to using he Panasonic kit?
Anyone can tell me a little about the sound differences before I order?
Is there really any major difference??
thanks!
Kris

Miguel Back in my training school days with the then Postmaster General's Department,(1955?) we were taught that an amplifier's bandwidth should be at least 3 to 5 times the maximum frequency to be reproduced. Oh, and that was before transistors came into general use. (We also built valve amplifiers as class projects !) Graham would disagree with you about not needing wider bandwidth to correctly reproduce the higher harmonic structure ? A good amplifier should not have an artificial warmth about it either. A well designed SS amplifier should have >20dB better signal to noise ratio than a typical valve amplifier, hence Leo's comments about noisy valves in another thread. Incidentally, what's the point of having 24bit 96KHZ audio with BluRay discs, and having valve output stages, if an average valve amplifier doesn't have 3 to 5 times that bandwidth ? i.e. 288KHZ minimum. Obviously, a normal valve amplifier is NOT suited to these requirements, although the new TechTube Valves (due in December?) from the old Mullard factory at Blackburn in the U.K. should be considerably better, due to their reduced internal capacitances, as well as their +-10% tolerance, compared to the industry standard of +-20%. Hi Alex,
Isn't the extended frequency meant to avoid the brickwall filter that can cause phase problem than actually being able to hear them. So hearing thru a tube amp after all the 24bit 96Khz conversion to analogue will not be disastrous, although when the analogue bandwidth is not large enough, the high frequency analogue square waves can be clipped due to poor harmonic structures higher up the range.
Anyway, this is what upsampling is all about and that is not to cause phase problems that could be heard or measured. I take it the hirez system to have this advantage as well on top of the added resolution at 24 bits.

XTRProf Remember that this was stated long before brickwall filters were even thought about. It would have more to do with the preservation of the harmonic structure. Modern thinking would seem to make this 3 to 5 times requirement quite conservative. Don't forget that even Sony was selling tweeters to go with SACD that extended past 70KHZ. There are other tweeters available that go past 100KHZ. Alex

Miguel That was stated for general information.I wasn't disagreeing with your statement. However, high resolution source material requires similar consideration if it is to sound any better than just a well recorded CD. Alex

I had to replace those and couldn't find them but I found a substitute of nte2501. I have two V2's one with 2sc3788 and one with nte2501 I can't tell the difference. David

Ooooh arrr, that be right decent charcolate carpn! Enjoy your Cadbury chocolates and other candy bars. We won't be over here much longer. Hershey's has forced Cadbury in the U.K. to stop selling its products in the U.S. So we are stuck with the high sugar, lower fat, soy emulsified crap they call chocolate. I hear they are a horrible employer as well. Allegedly that is. And the opinion on the taste is wholly my own and no one else's, and is not the opinion of Rock Grotto, or any of its members. There I have my arse covered. I mean if there are willing to take away someone's favorite chocolates what else are they capable of!!!

No worries, it's not real Cadbury anymore. Kraft bought them amd are starting to dumb down the chocolate recipes to their own level of total crap
