Well I ordered 4 more power resistors for the 29R position. I thought I'd try 2 different types for this spot so I got Mills 5Watt 30R & Caddock 3 watt 30R.
Having never tried the Caddocks I drilled holes & leaded these great looking tab resistors into position. Burned them in for an hour or so & had a listen. Oh Dear! the soundstage had shrunk, vocals sounded distant & the bass lost its bass. I can only describe what sounded like a starved power supply. The only benefit I could sense was slightly more detail, but this may be due to the compression of the sound-stage.
Well I thought I was in for a treat, which was only a disappointment. Out with the Caddocks & in with the Mills. After an hour burn in I had a listen. Ahhh! Wide sound-stage, natural bass, warm vocals & yes a tiny bit more detail. This was mostly noticed in the vocal decay. Are they better than the stock standard? Yes but by a margin of maybe 3-5%, so your time would be better tweaking other things, if you have other things to change first.
Now thats gotta be worth some karma?

Awarded you some Karma Aurum, you deserve it man what with you're pioneering resistor experiments. Have you tried the riedon yet? www.welbornelabs.com/mills.htm they are half the size of the Mills and sound a lot better IMO, the blew all the others away in the Darkvoice 336i.... a really nice resistor and it's like rolling a fine cuban cigar into position..... class on a stick

I'll post some pictures when I get my camera from my office. I may try the riedon resistors & do a shootout in the V3 for those that are interested. I talked to a friend who custom builds valve amps & he had a look at the V3, & did a bit of testing. So I may have a few more ideas in the pipeline. www.jeack.com.au/~lucas/
