Hi i bought stock x-cans v1 headphone amp recently and now i want to add some mods to it. Heres what i'm planning to to (tell me what you think): 1) 1A 12V AC power supply (to replace original 12V 500mA) 2) Change stock 9622 tubes to 6N23P-EV (btw 6N23P-EV is correct name not 6N23P-E B. Translated from russian 6Н23П-ЕВ, note that in Latin it will be H=N П=P E=E B=V) 3) Add DIP 8 sockets and replace opamps (recommend something good). I have currently LM4562 at my possession, will these work? 4) Change power caps. (here is a problem, in my local store there basically is only Jamicon. Where could i order Panasonic or similar? I live in Estonia). 5) change diodes to ultra fast ones with 10nf cap in parallel. (saw that in pinkfloyd mod. Does it have actual effect and what material cap should be used?) 6) Replace 10uF input caps. Is non polar better in some way? What caps are good for this purpose and where to buy? Thats all i can think at this point. If you have any suggestions let me know. Some pictures too: www.zone.ee/x-cans/ (you might get advertising link first but you figure out where to click)

On the PSU board Fit Panasonic 1200uF, a couple of Panasonic FM 100uF, Six UF4007 ultrafast diodes and replace the 470nF orange film cap with an EVOX PHE426 polypropylene. On the bottom board replace all of the 10uF electrolytics with non polar types (10uF), replace the 4 x 100uF with Panasonic FM, remove R115 / R225 and fit 32 ohm resistors here, remove the 4 x orange 470nF film caps and replace with EVOX PHE 426, fit Dip 8 sockets and roll in 2 x OPA2134 and you will be in heaven. LM4562 will also be fine here. I supply kits along with extremely detailed instructions (4 pages) and they contain everything you'll need (even the solder) I can also supply a better quality drop in headphone socket, brand new gold plated quad phono sockets, a drop in replacement ALPS potentiometer, the transistors..... everything in fact. Details of the kit are here www.rock-grotto.co.uk/v1upgradekit.html and some of the X-Can related stuff I keep in stock here: www.rock-grotto.co.uk/x-ccessories.htmlHere's what it will look like when it's finished: or maybe like this: You'll see a few more in this thread: rockgrotto.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=q&action=display&thread=1145652424Have fun!

Tnx for reply. I found some caps from my local store, can anyone tell me are they any good? NITAI 10uf NPRNIPPONCHE 1000ufRight caps but wrong dimensions, you want the 1200uF FM that are 12.5mm (dia) x 30mm (length) and not the 16mm (dia) x 20mm (length) ones. The Nitai non polars are perfect for the job. I've never used the Nippon chemicals caps in the X-Can but they are pretty good quality caps.

I took amp apart again and looked PCB. Heres what i found: C110, C111, C210, C211 have 10uf 50V ratings and they are used for opamp power decoupling. I would use 50uf Panasonic caps here not 10uf non polars. C103 and C203 are in signal path to filter DC. they are between line in and potentiometer. Between potentiometer and opamp line in there are those .47uf film caps. As i understand there are no need for 2 caps to filter DC? I would bypass 1 and change another. C212 and C112 are for tube power decoupling. I would put 220uf there. Hows this for replacing orange film cap? www.tevalo.ee/cgi-bin/web_store.cgi?artnr=65-445-55
