Thank you! 6N1P will not work in the X-10D 6N23P will and is a very nice sounding valve. The stock valves in the X-10D are 6DJ8 so you may also want to look for some of those. Mike.

Thanks for the response. I have one more question. How about tube 6H1N-EB that you mention before. Can I use it in X-10D? How is it compare to 6N23P-EB?

Thanks. I'm thinking Bumper sticker! not a sausage! See that Head-Fi place Benny? Not one word of thanks for our efforts..... not a sausage! Some people claim it derived from the Cockney rhyming slang sausage and mash, meaning cash, thus "not having a sausage" indicated having no money..... it generally means "nothing" in everyday usage. "I can't get this amp to fire up at all, not a sausage out of it"

I use Amperex Bugle Boy 6D8J Ecc88 Tubes in my X10D. These are old stock from the 60's & 70's. You can find them on Ebay. I think they sound great although not everyone will agree.

Just got a lot of 4 6N1P-EB's for X-Cans V1 but tried it in my X-10D. It sounded good, smoother and cleaner than Groove Tube 6922. It works on mine as I've upgraded the heater PSU rectifier to Philips BYV series (3amp) and 2.2ohm resistor dropper to higher wattage rating sufficient to deliver the required heater current. The original diode is general purpose 1Amp type, I think. This is my first experience with these Russian tubes and I'm impressed at what I'm hearing. Source is Rega vinyl > X-LP(upgraded parts & modded) > X-10D (upgraded and lightly modded) > passive pre > valve amp.

In case anyone wants to know...
A couple of weeks ago I replaced the X10-D tubes with ECC85's (NOS Telefunken), and they work extremely well. To my ears much better than new Philips 6922. They are quite pricey, and whether they represent good value for money is subjective, but I'm very happy!
Now, bring on that cap upgrade kit...
Cheers Steffen.

Anyway, how much you paid for the Telefunken? Have you tried NOS Mullard (Made in UK), the supposedly king or rather queen of small signal tubes?

They're not the same but similar enough to be interchangeable esp for applications like the X10-D. I paid 37 Euros for the pair, from tubeshop-24 on eBay. I did have a look around for Mullards but couldn't find any NOS, only used. From previous experience (with other types) I must say I prefer the Siemens-Halske and Telefunken to the Mullards. But they're all so good that this may well be a psychological effect. A German preferring British valves? Not bloody likely! ;D Cheers Steffen.

Wow, the Seimens is almost in the NOS Mullard (UK) range. Heh, heh, I understand. Just like German football must always be better then British football if I'm a German football fan. No, no, I'm a fan of most. Ya, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Inter Milan or Juventus, Real Madrid or Barcelona and what that famous Turkish side? Cheers!

I just noticed two Siemens E88CC NOS gold pin on oztion.com.au (item #4208290). Yummy! But I think at AU$80 for the two I'll pass...
But they should suit the X10-D quite nicely.
Cheers Steffen.

Seems ike this is a good valve discussion group. I am wondering if there is a sonic difference from the standard 6n23p and the EV version. I read that the EV is a more durable model but does it sound different (better)?

I read that the EV is a more durable model but does it sound different (better)? In my experience the standard 6N23P and 6N23P-EV sound exactly the same. The EV is a longer life valve but sonically identical to the standard.

Thanks for the quick response! I am just getting into the valve scene and appreciate the wealth of info you guys share. I live in sunny Hawaii where the valve scene is not necessarily "happening" so the internet is a boon to me. Look forward to doing some business with you in the near future. ;D

I am using NOS Telefunken E88CC and I 'm very happy with them. Probably one of the best choices for this tube type. I guess that very good choices are also: Mullard E88CC, Siemens E88CC and Amperex Bungle Boy E88CC. They are all rather expencive and not easy to find, though ...
