Its nice to have found your forum! Its quite the resource for :(Musical Fidelity headphone amp users! Has anyone compared the 6n23p tubes made by Reflector in Saratov to those made by Voskhod in Kaluga (rocket logo)? Also, does anyone have experience comparing older and newer tubes? My understanding is that the 6n23p and the 6h23n are identical tubes, and only reflect a problem with translating from the Cyrillic language--do others share the same impression? I've heard alot of compliments about using 6n23 tubes in x-cans, but have not tried them myself. Do you think they more closely resemble Mullard, Amperex, or Siemens tubes? Thanks.

Many have found the 6n1p & 6n1p-eb tubes to sound better than any 6n23p's.
Thay also cost less! ;D

I know people often use the 6n1p in XCan V3s, but I have a V2, and dont know how it would handle the greater filament current.

I hear the v2 is ok with a higher current psu. Ask :DMike to make sure!

I've listened to both and to be honest they both sound as good as each other.
I've listened to 1970's 6N23P and 1980's 6N23P and also 6N23P-EB and they all sound much of a muchness. The P and N types are exactly the same.
Most definitely closer to the Mullard sound, I personally prefer them to the Mullards but some prefer the 6H1P-EB even more. I would not recommend you fit 6N1P-EB into the V2 however as the 4 pairs I experimented with all exhibited a degree of hiss.... they were perfectly fine in both the V1 and V3 but the V2, for some reason, didn't get on with them too well. Don't get me wrong, they sound great in the V2 but you may experience hiss at low volume levels and you'll have to replace the 500mA wallwart with something a bit juicier.

Thanks PF for your comments. I personally am not into hiss, so I'll stay away from the 6N1Ps. (I'm also not much into pushing things current wise). Although each to his own, I have moved steadily from a more resolved sound to a warmer one, so the 6N23Ps may fit me well. Again thanks.
