Ok I've done all the upgrades to my X-Can V3 - tubes, caps, diodes and cannot really see any point to change anything else. I must admit that after diode upgrade sound was improved again and really now I'm curious to try Telefunken tubes to see what's this all about. But my question is of a different matter. After diode upgrade when I turn in X-Cans I can hear after some time audible sound in my phones like discharge in some amplifiers when power steps are on. It is more audible with AKG 701 - than with AKG 501 - the later higher impedance. It is only when unit is turned on and after that - complete silence. The question is is it normal? I cannot recall the sound before diode upgrade. Pink Floyd - would be great if you can comment on that.

When you switch the amp on with your headphones plugged in you will get a kind of "whoosh wham" sound after about 4 seconds... happens with all of them including the V2. You'll notice the same effect if you power down with your headphones connected....

TXH for the reply I thought those diodes change something else besides the sound.

...but never ever never turn on a cap coupled output headphone amp without a load connected (headphones) unless you KNOW the cap has a bias resistor to ground following it or the charge built up will be a lot more than a "whoosh" when you plug in and discharge the cap all in one shot !

TXH, I was fully aware that load shall be present while firing up this amp. I believe the same pertains to most of the tube amp designs - at least I'm using this as my rule of thumb for any tube design. Back to discussion about X-Can - is there anything that possibly can be changed ? I was thinking about cabling but checked and looks like those cables are silver platted copper unless I'm mistaken. Anyone can confirm? I do not have anything that possibly might be better - maybe some X_structure with this copper plated wires like XLO connectors or something. Last question - how you dumping your X_cans - currently I'm using home made dumping stone base with some rubber dumpers but I've done DIY stone blocks for my CD and trhe difference is HUUUGE so thought might do another set and check with X_can.What do you think?

Last question - how you dumping your X_cans Dumping? This is a new term to me! By dumpoing do you mean suspend? As for other mods ... I hear (sic?) that tube rings help, and of course there damping the case as the whole thing is microphonic. Then there's a PSU (Mike has a nice little pinkie PSU if you only have th X-CAN to worry about). Of course there's swopping out the tubes _ I really like the russian's BP1 (again available from Mike) ... and of course the PSU cable, and and and and and!
