Hello, I'm wondering if a V2 can burn out tubes (valves) quickly. About three months ago I swapped poor sounding ECC88's with 7DJ8's. Now the 7DJ8's bass response is very poor (distorted, fat, gritty). However, the treble is distortion free and the midrange is fairly clear. The ECC88's lasted about a year, but these 7DJ8's lasted only a few months.
Before I buy another set of tubes, I'd like to know if I should be concerned that something else is wrong with my V2. Should I not have bought the 7DJ8's? Am I correct to assume the tubes are at fault?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

From what I can gather 7DJ8 require a higher filament voltage over the 6922. I have no experience of using these valves in a V2 so really can't comment. From the sounds of it the valves are at fault and replacing them with 6922, E88CC or 6H23P-EB should do the trick. 6H23P-EB are very long lasting (as are the JAN philips 6922) they should last years as opposed to months.

I appreciate the feedback. I'll buy another set of ECC88's or 6922's. I don't currently have a backup set of tubes...so I'm dyin without my tunes!! Cheers -D
