Changing the C105 and C205 capacitors (10uF, in contact with the valves) is a must, just like upgrading the output capacitors; since I replaced them with Elna SilmicII, the sound has reached yet another level of transparency. Have a nice tweak and a pleasant 31st of December (Photo was taken before the final upgrade)

Nice one man. If you also try fitting 10uF non polar caps in this position you're in for a slight improvement too. Also replace the 1000uF electrolytics with panasonic FC or FM and most definitely replace those 1N4007 diodes with UF4007 ultrafast types.
Nice looking 2u2 film caps, what type?

The 2,2uF caps are SCR (Solen), I fancy that a pair of 10uF would fit in the box but haven't tried so far... Oh and I already upgraded the diodes but with BYW98-200, and all electrolyctic were replaced with BC 037, Panasonics are hard to get in France. So my X-Pre is done with mods... Next step? Sell it for a 100% DIY tube preamp rickcr42, I haven't got a clue what you meant !

Bennic do a range of axial also, never tried their polyprops but have used their non polar elcaps in speaker crossovers. So Rick wasn't insulting X-10D amp saying "looks like bennics" just saying the caps look like they may be Bennic. More on Bennic here: www.bennic.com.tw/SCR (Societe des Composants Record) are another cap I've tried in loudspeaker crossovers and very nice sounding they are too. One of the best things to come out of France since onions and the paintwork on the concorde Used to source mine from Wilmslow secure.wilmslow-audio.co.uk/acatalog/Wilmslow_Audio_Capacitors_45.html but I'm sure there are cheaper sources for them?

There's been way too much Kentucky bourbon in the house (or should I say inside me) when I've been posting the past few weeks so it's back to water from 01/01/07 way too easy to get back into bad ways

Happy new year guys, Sorry I didn't understand/know Bennics but they do look nice too! If you want SCR caps, PinkFloyd or Rick, I can buy them quite cheap here and send them to you... I'm curious how they compare to the ones used on Rockgrotto And SCR do sell directly (min 100€ if I remember)...

I'll be happy to send you two of the EVOX / Rifa 2.2uF polypropylenes in exchange for a couple of SCR caps. That way we can both compare the differences. PM me if you're interested Kepa All the best. Mike.

Seriously "yep" benny. I've fallen back into bad habits and it's amazing just how easy it is to find yourself back in the same old boat. I thought I'd never touch the stuff again but recently have been caning it back in quite alarming quantities. Almost like a subconscious self destruct button was pressed somewhere in my brain. Good thing is I know what it'll do to me if I let it continue so am back with the program pretty soon. I say "pretty soon" not as an excuse to put it off a bit longer but I just need to totally convince myself this time just how damaging the stuff can be and am purposely pushing myself to the limits for a reason. All the bad points are being logged along with the "few" good points and these will serve as a good reminder of just what a waste of fckin energy and life the booze is the next time I think to myself "one won't do any harm"......

;D If its for me? I'm not here! Some of these folks are nuts! A guy payed me $60. to unmod his X10V3. I'm receiving death threats from some people who insist that unless I mod their X-CANs and pay them £700 they'll shit in my nostrils and make sure I choke to death. Luxury, you just couldn't "wish" for better if you tried... I've only ever, till now, dreamt of someone shitting up my nostrils.... this is a dream come true. EDIT: I'm not here either <gone fishing, in Brazil, won't be back for a loooooooong time)
