wondering what the xa-1 is like, I don't need too much power yo run my kef stand-mounts.
What is the sound like with slightly forward speakers such as the kef Q series ?
I presume that they have the standard jamicon capacitors that I could also change for better sound, as well as playing with the PSU box.

Ah.........the XA-1.Got one currently in my loft.It was bi-amped with my XAS-100 power amp. However when I got the nu-vista pre,she ended up in the loft. There's not as much inside as you'd think. From memory a pair of 6800uF caps in the PSu and a handfull of much smaller value ones elsewhere. The sound is good.A very under-rated integrated IMHO.OK so the Nu-vista has much clearer mids and clearer bass...........but i think the bas on the XA-1 went a bit lower.Or maybe it was just a littlem more muddy,so gave the impression of lower. I will not be selling mine.It will be ideal for a second system. But as usual there are caps to upgrade inside.
The psu box has just a transformer in it ( like most MF psu boxes)

Just had a look under the lid of my X-A1 There are 4 SAP15 output trannys,2 per side. The Jamicon caps are there as usual, but there are only 2 large 50V caps. But they are 10,000uF types...... A handfull of other caps and an Alps pot.
This integrated did me well for 6 years. The power section driving the treble units. My X-AS100 doing bass duties. It's so good, that I'm keeping it for a future 2nd system..................The X-A2 was more powerful at 75W/ch (and it had a blue LED !)

thanks - I just missed out on one on trade.co.nz - simular to ebay, but a New zealand website. Not too worried there are so may things that I want that I can decide.... Do I go for a XA-1 (due to being older I would have to buy without listening to - so I can compare how much better than my NAD) or do I update my computer speakers for my son, or do I buy an 30 or 60gb colour Ipod that I could use to store most of my cds and play them throught my hifi when sitting in its dock - and I would make a highend silver interconnect with eichmann plugs etc

Hi Folks, I too have an x-a1, and until recently (3 months ago) was very happy with it until its power supply exploded. My local MF dealer is as useless as the proverbial in terms of sourcing a replacement.
Can anyone tell me what output voltages the PSU supplies the amp, including the pin-outs?
many thanks!

Jc PS supply exploded. Wow, how old is the amp? You must change the PS caps before that happened. Or is it the transformer shorted? Have the fuse blew as well? Or is there a fuse as my X-Dac V3 doesn't have one and the transformer just smoked and I was really puzzled then as how could that happended when there is a protection fuse.

Hi Folks, The transformer shorted out - thats what happened. The PSU isn't fused, but all looks physically well in the XA-1. No fuses blown, otherwise normal.
My local "former" MF dealer really was useless, and after 3 months of waiting for him to get a quote, nothing had happened. I emailed the Oz distributer, and had one within 2 weeks - wanted in the vicinity of 200 pounds for a transformer alone.
Not a complete "numpty" as one puts it - aware of hair raising, pulse stopping voltages.
Can anyone help with PSU output voltages?
Cheers
Justin

Justin Perhaps Mike has some info on this one, or can ask one of his numerous contacts. I did some searching on Google for further information, but there doesn't seem too much available. Perhaps it is a fairly old model ?

Jc Oh, been there. The audio dealer here told me a few years ago there were no spare parts for my x-can when it had problems with the potentiometer... So I went the "Mike route" and found out there is a whole (very nice) world on the mod side of life. So i'm not going anywhere near this dealer who probably wanted to shove me some wifi box thingy. I have little experience with the xa-1 and that was very long ago.
