Oh yes, very interesting indeed. Not sure about those caps suspended in mid air though ;D a lot of lead there don't you think?

knew you would pick up on that one Having "swinging caps" is a sure path to bad SQ no matter how much those caps cost.If any part needs to be nailed down it is a capacitor.... mongo like lead

Having "swinging caps" is a sure path to bad SQ no matter how much those caps cost.If any part needs to be nailed down it is a capacitor.... I think anything swinging about under the bonnet is probably not too hot for sound quality and, dependant on where it swings, may not be too good where reliability is concerned either. As the guy said though there isn't any room inside those units to fit huge caps but I'd rather not have them than fit them in that fashion... swinging caps, lead inductance, untidy looking, bugger when it comes to shipping...... Also, those multicaps up on stilts... fine for the time being but the pads that they connect to are smaller than a pin head so, in time, the weight / strain of those caps will soon see the pads drop off the board. Better if the guy took the strain between cap and board with something like sticky pads or, even better, hot melt glue blobs.... strain relief is important if you fit oversized components onto tiny pads that are thinner than paper.

the ideal would be to add any new/oversized parts on their own universal pcb that is in turn bolted to the main board then just runj wires to the original holes.Best bet would be to use plastic not metal pcb separation posts in an attemtp to avoid mutual vibration conduction, always a plus and even clamp the caps right to the pcb with locking cable ties.
"Swinging" resistors while not the ideal are WAY better than swinging caps since it is the capacitor that is the microphonic part and so far i have yet to come across a single microphonic resistor
