Hi, i just registered after searching for some good X-Can sites. So this forum looks like the best place for some informations My X-Can V2 for £135 : cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110055143038should arrive then next week.... hopefully I got already the HD600 for few years. Used it with a Accuphase E-210 and lately with a NAD 320BEE. But i dont want to keep the NAD near the computer anymore, so the X-Can will be a good replacement. Ahh yes, i listen mostly on the PC, with a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard. Maybe it will sound even better with the X-Can V2. Regards Mike

From what I can make out from the pictures it looks like it's in super condition, nice one, those amps (the V2) are wonderful little cans of pure magic. They're not strictly "accurate" but my god are they fun and extremely musical... who needs accurate when there's fun and musicality on offer that's what I say. Probably the most magical little box of tricks there is as far as I'm concerned, the design is just totally fantastic with the amp housed in that sleek aluminium tube (or "CAN") a true design classic and everytime I listen to them it brings a smile to my face.... why have square when you can have round? Brilliant

Yeah, looks like its in a good condition. Beside the tubes, this round design was one of the reasons why i choose the MF. Altough, what i have read, it doesnt sound like a Tube amplifier (hybrid). But this doesnt bother me, if it sounds good. Also i have to change the plug for the PS, cause in Vienna we got the round ones. Adapters shouldnt be a problem, but from what i have read the PS should be changed anyway. I got some old 12V light transformers with 10A or something. This should do the job ;D But first i have to check the sound and maybe then ill start some tuning. A lot of stuff on your site, n1! I was in electronics for few years, but did never experimented with tubes. But i have a friend that repairs TV´s and stuff. He also got a lot instruments for "refreshing" tubes and such. Maybe ill ask him for some high-end tubes for my birthday

I just got hold of another one too Miguel, arrived today, and in absolutely pristine condition both inside and out... hell, it even came with a length of Ixos inteconnect nice touch from the seller, he didn't even mention interconnect. Honestly looks as if this guy has seen very little use, as clean as a whistle and the valves glowing very strongly indeed. In two minds whether or not to keep this one "stock" and save it for a rainy day or whether to use it as a guinea pig to try out the Samwha V series 130C caps.... I think I've already made my decision, guinea pig it will be Just listening now and kinda forgot just how glassy sounding the philips 6922 can be in places and there's a definite muddiness to the sound with the stock caps, a muddy veil like you're listening through a blanket filled with coconut hair and treacle.... heh, nice nonetheless, it's good to go "stock" once in a while to remind myself just how effective and worthwhile tweaking can be. Guinea pig in position, harmlessly playing away, not realising it's about to be totally ravaged with a hot soldering iron

Mine also arrived today. I managed to go to the post office before they close at 6pm. Now im listening to it already and trying to find goods and bads. First thing i noticed is the tube sound. Ive read some reviews on audioreview.com, that people dont hear the tube sound. Well i hear it! But i here also some distortion in the heights. Perhaps thats the cheap Philips tube. But all in all im happy. It worked right out of the box. Looks like it was never opened or modded. Btw, how many Watts does it need in Stand by Mode? I just noticed that the PS is getting a bit hot. Here are some pics: And few more: Just unpacked Adapter

The wallwart will run hot, this is normal.... again, nothing to worry about happens with all of them. Nice looking condition

Ok, but when i have to replace them, then ill rather buy better ones. You have some tips on your site. Have to read it more thoroughly. I hope they will work with the default PS. Ye, i asked about the PS cause i thought the Amp sucks already 500mA out of the Wallwart. So to say, this way the PS is the limiter, which means that the Amp needs more mA (or could use more)... But someone said, that with the stronger PS, the Amp is getting hot instead of the PS. Sounds kinda logical. Maybe they did that on purpose, so the Amp dont gets too hot

Maybe they did that on purpose, so the Amp dont gets too hot The amp will only draw the current it requires, a bigger transformer is simply a bigger pool the amp can draw from... the stock wallwart is pretty much red lined even at idle so something like a 20VA - 30VA transformer is a better bet. Amp should not get hotter if you use a bigger transformer though some people claim it does, I've yet to experience it.

I mean, did you ever measure the mA with the Wallwart?

My Audio Alchemy DITB DAC draws in the mA's yet my external power supply box puts out +/- 8 volts @ 3 Amps per polarity. Overkill ? Maybe, though I am convinced the additional headroom of the power supply frees up the music so the strain you hear during busy passages n some gear is totally absent. Loud music sounds like a louder version of soft music rather than changing character because of clippped peaks or compression. Circuits if operating properly will only take what they need moment to moment from a power supply meaning even 100 amps DC Power will do zero harm (your mains outlet can hit the mains cord with 20 amps likely for instance) so it is only when electronics go into a fault condition that we have any problems with overpowering.for that eventuality we have fuses that if properly sized will "ping" way before any damage can be done to the electronics. Firm believer in over designed power sources for dynamic music use.Way more bang for the buck than any fancy capacitor or pretty gold jacks can offer
