I have seen the rave reviews of the 6N23P-EB tube with respect to the Musical Fidelity X-Cans.
Is the 6N23P-EB tube also suitable for use in the Musical Fidelity X-10D (original version not V3)??.

Although I am ignorant on the tube buffer I will comment anyways! Aren't the tubes on the tube buffer soldered to the board? Instead of the normal sockets. The older version of the x10d, that I have, definately has socketed tubes (maybe you are thinking of the V3 version) So can I use the 6N23P-EB Tubes ?

Got my 6N23P-EB tubes from Tony this morning and fitted them inside my x10d.
How long do you think I should leave them to "burn in" before I can make a fair comparison with the Philips Jan 6922 previously fitted?

For some reason 6N23P-EB "do" seem to require a bit of time before they fully blossom (many people have reported this) so I'd give them a good 72 hours. What arte your initial impressions of them in the X-10D? Mike.

Initial impression is that the bass is more extended than the stock tubes - although this is after only a couple of hours burn- in.
By the way - what is the model history of the x10d? I am aware of the original x10d that I have and the x10d V3. Was there a V1 and V2 version of the x10d like the X-Cans?

X-10D was introduced in 1995 and sold about 48,500 units. There have only been two models, the original X-10D and now the X-10 V3. Mike.

So there have only been 2 models of the x10d but the latest version is v3 - very strange ! I suppose this was done to keep it in step with the X-Cans.
After a week of burn-in the sound of the 6N23P-EB tubes has further improved. I cannot believe the bass extension I am now getting. So much so that with my rear ported speakers fairly close to the back wall I am thinking of putting the foam bungs back in the ports!! Amazing what different tubes can do in the x10d.
How would the Electro Harmonix (EH) 6922's compare with my current valves. I like the detail and bass I am getting from the 6N23P-EBs but with some cds there is still a little harshness.

Stick with the 6H23P-EBs. I've experienced the EH 6922s, and there are good, an noticeable improvement over the stock tubes, but there are not in the same league as the 6H23P-EBs.

Thanks for the advice Fergus. A couple of weeks now since I put the 6N23P-EB's in and the sound is constantly improving. The bass is phenominal and the overall tone is a lot smoother now.
If anyone buys these tubes make sure you give them at least a week or two to burn in!

If you're anyway good with a soldering iron, try Mike's mods to the X-10D - I've heard they're stunningly good.
I've modded my X-CAN V3, including paper in oil caps in the output stage, and honestly the difference the stock X-CAN and the modded one is "night and day". Next up is the X-DAC V3 and the X-10 V3.
You're right about MF messing around with the "V" numbers. Have you seen the latest incarnations of the X-Series: the X-RAY V8 and the X-DAC V8? What ever happened to the V4, V5, V6 and V7?
