I have an X-cans v1 and was thinking of getting the mod kit and/or looking at new tubes, and wondered if the mod would alter or the choice of valves.
The main site has a review of tubes in a V2, which is obviously different to the V1.

I have an X-cans v1 and was thinking of getting the mod kit and/or looking at new tubes, and wondered if the mod would alter or the choice of valves. The main site has a review of tubes in a V2, which is obviously different to the V1. Most of the V1's I have seen come with the 6DJ8 JAN philips valves. You can either replace with the same of you can use E88CC / 6922 / 6H23N-EB types. Probably the nicest sounding / bang for the buck / longest lasting valve would be the 6H23N-EB you can get them from Tony Williams tony@vcomp.co.uk and if you quote this forum I believe he will do you a closely matched pair for around the £15 - £20 mark. These valve not only sound good they also have a very long life as they are "long life / military" versions of the standard 6H23N. The cap mods won't alter the choice of valves and you can roll in 6DJ8, 6922, E88CC, 6H23N etc. with no problems at all. Let us know what you decide to go with and how they sound. All the best. Mike.
