offhand I would suggest staying with the 6DJ8 tdsl.duncanamps.com/show.php?des=6DJ8and 6922 family of tubes tdsl.duncanamps.com/show.php?des=6922My personal 6DJ8/6922 tube swap would be the 6N1P but no way does the X-Cans have enough heater current for this tube so it is best to stay with the "plug it in and play" type tube rolling unless you are prepared to modify the circuit and/or power supply BTW-the ECC85 may work,I would have to check the numbers to be sure, but again offhand it is likely not without circuit mods with the link you provided possibly misleading and especially so since it provides very little "meat and potoes" to the "I did this and it sounds good" as usual, just an opinion

Hi Rick,
With regard to the 6N1P I have been using these in my personal X-CAN amps for quite some time and they sound just fine and dandy. As a direct drop in they don't glow too bright but sound very good without any further mods. They'll probably "last" a lot longer in this state too I'd imagine?

interesting.I run mine with 6.3V/1A to the heaters (each) which call for 600ma per triode according to the data
I also run them "hot" which means biased right at the edge of allowable limits that makes replacing the tubes often a must of the sound becomes very two dimensional and lifeless. costing about $8 per replacement I figure better to have great SQ than to worry about tube longevity though if the cost were much higher or the amp a commercial product I likely would back off a bit.

Anyone tried ECC85's in an x10d ?
I have read comments on the web from more than one person that suggest this an upgrade over the stock tubes.

Unless the people that have tried them are just joking then I have no reason to doubt them when they say they work so why not give them a go and let us know? I was reading this post on Audiogon which went from X-10D into something most disturbing... one for you to read I think Rick forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ddgtl&1099737755&openfrom&10&4&&st500 talk about witch hunts
