Mike can the Russian caps be used on the V2? Thanks. Well...... it would be a BLOODY tight squeeze and would almost certainly foul the board retaining screw..... let me try one in one of my v2's and we'll see................

Mike Are you able to flesh it out with a brief description of each stage ? Or is this just a work in progress at the moment ? Interesting photos too.The unusual angles earns more than a cursory glance. Alex

Mike She certainly is as 'as new' as the seller said. Its great to see the inside looking as pristine as the outside. It will be interesting to hear the differences between this, the Mike-mod V3 and the V8. Then in comparison to my SRG Solo.
And soon, hopefully the AK SC HA will come back to life, thanks to all the guidance from Alex for a further contrast. Syd

Interesting 1000 uF 16 V instead of 470 uF 16V plus no longer using the short fat caps in the power supply. I do need to send mine in for a tune-up. Yes, the 1000uF is especially useful if you use low impedance 'phones Miguel. With a 32ohm headphone the stock 220uF output caps roll the bass off at 22.61Hz.... 470uF rolls it off at 10.58Hz and 1000uF rolls it off at 4.97Hz. With a 300ohm headphone the stock 220uF output caps roll the bass off at 2.41Hz..... 470uF rolls it off at 1.13Hz and 1000uF rolls it off at 0.53Hz So, you can see the 1000uF is particularly good with 32ohm 'phones

31st July 2009 - Marius Warriner's X-10 V3 A mixture of EVOX / Rifa, Panasonic FM, Samwha VA, ELNA RE2 (bypassed with EVOX polypropylene film caps) and Panasonic NHG electrolytics. Output caps are 470uF. UF 4007 ultrafast diodes fitted. Sounds the business Which tubes are this? Which MF headphone amp sounds best with low impedace HA's (Denon, AKG)?

JAN / Philips 6112 X-Can V1 / V2 / V3 / V8 all sound SUPERB with the AKG range of 'phones, my particular favourite is X-Can v2 with 30VA / 12VAC powering it.

Uhhhh I think I am in love.
The only very very very very very very small downside is the enclosure, I know it is a classic, but it just looks wrong to me, maybe I will change my mind when it get here (I hope)..
Does the enclosure work as a cooling device ?? If not I could whip up something wodden, keep the front plate as some kind of "badge", but then again it has to be something extraordinary.
It could be made as a triangle, a bit like the symbol that is on clothes.
Well I am going to put my thinking cap on and see if I can come up with an idea (or rather a vision), if nothing comes up I can easyli live with that also. Afterall most of my gear is in the closet so to speak, I got one of those old mahogani cuppards and I am working on transforming it into the ultimate head-fi furniture of course with respect of the original look, so that it is undercover and only reveals itself when it is open.
There will be pictures when I am a bit longer in the progress, but we have a canjam in 14 days so it will not get filled up till after that, I am just to lazy to mount everything and then take it out a week later and then mount it once more when our meet is over.
Oh and if the valves were born the same year as me it would be just perfect (1970), it really does not matter but I would think it was funny.

Jesus man..... the "enclosure" is the second best bit about this amp (SQ first / looks second)..... I suppose you either "love it" or "hate it".... I personally LOVE it Yes, the enclosure dissipates heat. It's NOT perfect and components live life to the max under the hood but it WORKS... the real weak points are the 85C rated capacitors but I have addressed this with 105C rated Panasonic FM (good to go for MANY years)...... The PCB material is pretty "cheap" and likes to turn a shade of brown at hot points but will continue to do the job for many many years..... it's like a "classic" car.... just accept it's flaws and marvel in the ride.... unlike a classic car I'll give you a 10 year guarantee with my work..... Just fire her up and enjoy the Music Claus I'll have a look in my armoury and do my best to fit a couple of 1970 "EB" frame 6H23N valves (I'm sure I've got a few in stock ) Seriously man....... it's about enjoying the music, don't worry about the amp breaking down..... use it and abuse it.... any problems, you know where I am. Mike.

I think it is a look that I love to hate and I am all into vintage stuff, you should see my clothes or is that just because I am out of style ?? and use all my money on this dreadfull hobby. Speaking of knobs, I am still looking for one to fit my Chiara. picasaweb.google.com/clausnn/ChiraFinshed#5347263467866063298I want a big shiny knob, that I can polish often, I like polishing my knob(s)..
