Hi Just changed the op amps on my X-cans ( I used 8 DIP sockets),and I seam to have aslight channel in-balance ? Could it be my soldering , or have I damaged one of the op amps ? I've switched over the tubes and that makes no differance. It's just that I don't remember there being an in-balance before !

Secondly, swap the opamps over and see if the channel imbalance changes.. if so you could have a slightly dodgy opamp. It's very hard to diagnose these things online, check out obvious things like dry solder joints, lifted track etc. and try your original opamps to see if they perform ok. Mike.

OP amp swap was one this mornings activity list !.We'll see how I get on.I used RS pt No 285-8069,however they are not Burr Brown but Texas Instruments. The original Phillips ones may be recoverable. However as I did not intend to refit them a little bt of pin re-alaignement is required first ! I'll report back when the swap is done !

Well, I can now answer my own question.No.
Took the op amps out and metered the sockets with the associated track. All good joints.Restored my faith in my soldering ! Swapped over the op amps, rebuilt and now the channel balance is restored ! So, not actactly sure what the issue was, but let's hope it is gone for ever ! Awaiting my new caps tomorrow. So the X-cans has to go under the knife ( or should that be iron) again. RS do not have any of the FM 1200uF (526-1777) is stock .And they are not expecting any until march ! So, I've had to order the slightly bigger diametre verions 16mm dia rather than 12mm.All other specs the same. And they only had 10 of them.So now room for cock-ups !
