have relaced the 4 220uf caps with 2 1000uf seems to be a slight hiss

I used the 1000uf 16v non polarised the same as you, And sennheiser 600 hedphones. With regards to the soldering it's the first time iv'e ever done it,but it looks good. It could be that the x can is revealing more information off the cd.

Try this, put a CD on play and then hit pause.... now turn up the volume with your headphones on (with CD on pause) there should be no hiss at all.. you may get a slight noise near full volume but this is perfectly normal with the X-Can. Did you remember to clamp the ground wire back into place between the chassis and back plate? If not, this could cause a small amount of hiss. Mike.
