Hi all. I would like to ask for some help to fix my broken X-cans v2. I don't know why but the circuit is burned out (red circle in the image below, two registors and three mosfets). Because it is burned to black, I cannot recognize what the registor ohm was. Can somebody take a look at the inside of the X-cans and let me know which registors to buy for replacement? I would also appreciate if you can recognize what the part number for the burned Mosfets. Thanks a lot!!!!

OK, here we go: TIP110 and TIP115 here: www.ee.washington.edu/stores/DataSheets/transistors/tip110.pdf2SC3788 here: www.chipdocs.com/datasheets/datasheet-pdf/SANYO-Electric-Co-Ltd/2SA1478.htmlBoth the burnt out resistors are 10R (10 ohm) I very much doubt you'll have to replace the TIP115 and 2SC3788, they look fine, but you certainly will have to replace both the 10R resistors and the TIP110 transistor. If the track has lifted off the PCB then just solder the resistors and transistor on to the next components directly (point to point) This really looks a lot worse than it is and is a quite common failure point both in the V2 and V3... when I say "common" I mean this is the part of the amp that will have a tendancy to go up in smoke should the transistor fail.. don't worry about it, just replace the failed parts and your amp should be as right as rain for many years to come. If you need any close up shots of the board then let me know. All the best. Mike.

Mike, thanks for the reply. I'll post how my repairing project goes. This forum rocks!!

Hi, again. It seems that 2SC3788 is discontinued, and I cannot find any on-line store that has one. Is there any other transistor that I can use instead of this? or do you guys know any place I can buy this one? Thanks!

So, X-cans V3 have resistors that get hot and burn the board( and now MF have raised them up off the board) , the V2 likes to burn componants as well ! My original X-cans shows signs off heat around the tubes as well, but hopefully that is all.It all points to real poor design.Keep most electronic componants cool and they last forever, but even modest ammounts of heat will shoren their life.Of more concern is whether these things could burst into flames!

Hi
Did you source the 2sc3788 tranny ? If not , I know of a few Uk based suppliers................BTW I think they are made by Sanyo

It is hard to find suppliers in the US who have 2SC3788 in stock. Usually they do not have this chip but on their list, so when I order it they ask me to wait about 1~2 weeks. After tried two suppliers that made me waiting forever, I have decided to use NTE counterpart (NTE2501) that I found on mouser.com. I hope this will work. If not, I'll try UK suppliers.

I too have an X-can V2 that has a burnt out pair of 10R resistors and a burnt out TIP110 tranny ! When they go , the smell is bad.........It was the only initial indication !
I've changed the tranny and 2 10R resistors, but surrently no sound from either channel. The led is still on though .
Any ideas ?

On "both" occasions it was a dry joint that had caused the death.... look further down the line than the trannies and 10R resistors, check there is voltage across the caps and also check there is voltage across the diodes on the PSU board. Good luck. Mike. Any ideas ?
