Besides providing "weight" and isolation would a plain jane plastic box work? I mean it will not win any beauty contest but it would be utilitarian and inexpensive.

What about a 19" case for an mini ITX form factor PC server? They are available in depths as small as 10", have plenty of room for an internal PS and are well insulated against RF. The front plate can be used with the rack ears or not. Available in various heights (1-4 rack units= 43mm - 172mm)

Thanks guys, I was hoping for something around the size of a Naim half width case (shoebox)

Hi Leo, I'm on Pedja's yahoo group - the guy who bought a 1.1b PCB > 2 years ago and never got round to starting it. But was tempted to soon.
Was already thinking about how hard it is to find a good case and I know bugger all about cutting/drilling/silkscreening, yada yada, so anways, one idea I was thinking of was looking for dead-el-cheapo hi-fi equipment on ebay - say a DAC itself, gutting it and then stuffing Pedja's DAC in there.
Though maybe this would be better for the 1.1b which is basically as basic as it gets - IEC inlet, phono outs and 1 BNC in. Only prob is the AYA has USB in, but otherwise I think cannibalising could be the way to go.

Miguel Leo was raving on a while back about how good the Pedja Rogic AYA DAC was (TDA1541A) and how frustrated he was that he couldn't get the PCM1794 based DAC to beat it. Alex

I'm really looking forward to getting started on mine. Not that I have the time, really, but I've looked through most other kits at my level and there's no other projects I'd want to get stuck into - rather than buy a commercial unit.

Leo, did you ever finished the 1541 based DAC? I am currently listening to a 1543 based DAC (Lite DAC-AH) and I love it. The 1541 is supposed to be superior so ... I still only have a temp crappy case but the dac has been used on a regular basis. Soon as I get a much better case I'll update the pics

That maybe the way I have to go too, which is buying a cheap faulty dac off ebay and gut it Something like a cambridge dac or an old Arcam maybe ok, these are often available on ebay

Yairs, and you also get some spare components for the parts bin! I really like the Audionote DAC kit chassis, but you can't buy those separately (and I bet they cost a bomb). Might be fun to see if anyone could do a Sherlock Holmes and find out who makes these for them
