OK ... you can all shout/laugh/giggle at once .... any ideas seriously welcome.
So I did Mike's X-CAN V3 mod and the X-10V3 mod. Both kits included some fast diodes (added bonus - thanks Mike). I didn't add these initially to the X-CAN V3 as they looked rather fiddly ... but I did add them to the X-10 V3 with no issues whatsoever.
Anyhow .. came back from work tonight and thought that I'd revisit the X-CAN V3 (which was working perfectly well yesterday) and add the fast diodes I'd left out when originally doing the mods. You know where this is going don't you!
So anyhow .. they are all in situ - as far as I can see I've done a good job with the weldin ... errr ... soldering, and they are all in the correct orientation.
So why doesn't the barsteward thang work when I plug it back in. I have the LED light, the plugs are plugged in OK ... just no sound at all! Blackness, zilch, black as a black thing from black land.,.. nada .. no hum, no nothing - this parrot is no more!
So can these diodes die when soldered? Is there something else I may have done. I was more careful than a careful thing that carefully cared for the valves and other components! I tried not to overly heat or linger with the soldering iron - no obvious dry joints, and in fact much of the soldering shows lovely mirrored finish, and flowed well when I soldered! I guess I'm saying that I'm pretty sure it's not my soldering - as new to it as I am.
I have a multimeter, and could probe!
Heeeeelllpppp!
