Heard about that but never tried it at home Rick (I think it was Dr. White who did it that way) no way would I be populating an entire board with SMD (these days) so will stick to my hands on method for the occasional bit of small work even though my eyesight is failing rapidly too. And would you believe I used to fault find and repair SMD boards when I worked for ALPS up in Montrose, Scotland (many years ago now)... the guy who worked with me used this huge magnifier, as well as his specs, and I used to take the piss out of him as he would peer through this magnifier and use all the aids at his disposal to position each individual chip and solder it..... I'd just run the iron straight over a bunch of chips and job done...... Thing is, I had A1 eyesight then and the dexterity of a rumanian gymnast... he'd be about the age I am now..... age has crept up on me and visual "aids" are not only desirable these days, in places they are essential. Off to order up a "toaster oven" from ebay

I pretty much am cornered on this because I do digital audio projects (DAC/ADC/CODEC...no DSP so far but i DO have these ADI chips on the bench that...................) with all the newer onse being surface mount parts. Can't say i like it but being that it is what it is my choices are walk away or quit whimpering and deal with it I hear you man.I think maybe in my case this new "blind" thing is no more than payback for all the times I messed with a "four eyes" back when I could still see straight You won't regret it mike ! Also makes a great casserole once you pull out all the chassis you had in there baking the paint on try that with a microwave BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTT...........hmmmmmmmmzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
