130C rated No, they don't look interesting because they're gold coloured... they are low impedance with a very high temperature rating. Details here www.electronicstalk.com/news/eas/eas147.html and available at Rapid soon Must give these a try

I took a peek inside my amp a while back and that had a couple of large Samwha slit foil capacitors, along with some Elna Silmic electrolytics. I'd never heard of Samwha before so I googled and found their website: www.samwha.com/jsp/MainProc.jsp?type=initializeIt will be interesting to hear what you make of them.

Samwha actually make some very good audio capacitors which www.maplin.co.uk sell, lovely sounding but physically large: I tried them in a chiarra ages ago and the guy was over the moon with the sound. Samwha make a nice "looking" cap too, I've yet to see one that doesn't cry out "look at me!" Quite the range they have too though I doubt you'll be able to find much about it at their website ;D As a matter of interest Creek amps use the Samwha 85C general purpose penny a pop caps in their headphone amps (not the higher quality audio Samwhas) so, yes xerxes, Samwha are a very well known brand who've been on the go Donkey's years. These new 130C VA series caps sure do look interesting but I can't find the spec sheet for them anywhere, I've e-mailed Samwha for details.

That big 10,000uF cap in the picture looks similar to the one's in my Cyrus amp and the PSX-R power supplies I have, but off the top of my head I can't remember what capacitance they were, but they were fairly large, about 25-30mm in diameter and about 50-60mm long.
I was quite surprised to find these and especially the Elna Silmic caps in the Cyrus amp I have. There were some other Elna branded caps that I couldn't Identify in addition to the Silmics; presumably the Silmics were used only in the most critical areas. I fully expected to find an amp full of no-name, generic components. There are far cheaper alternatives to the Elna Silmics and it's reasuring to discover a fairly mass market manufacturer is not selecting components purely based on cost.

Much the same can be said for the Audiolab 8000A (made in Cambridge also) jam packed with ELNA Cerafine caps.... it must be a Cambridge thing

I currently have a whole Cyrus set-up, CD8x + PSX-R and an a 8vs amp + PSX-R with a pair of Dynaudio 52SE speakers and I'm pretty chuffed with it. Not high end by any means, but it completely blew my old set up out of the water: Marantz CD75, Incatech Claymore amp and a pair of Musical Fidelity MC-2 speakers.

Positive, I would have known the name Nichicon and I distinctly remember looking up Samwha on the net as I hadn't heard of them. I'll pop it open again at some point and take some pictures, but I'm listening to it at the moment.
