I was thinking of trying some different valves in my v3.. what would you recomend and what sort of price Pink F? Something nice and bassy and smooth would be nice!
Not sure how difficult it is to change capacitors but if its not too difficult I may be interested..

Hi Mike,
Need a couple of AD826 op-amps to try in the X-DAC V3. Any chance you could sell me them? Could you also recommend a good quality IC socket?

Not sure how difficult it is to change capacitors but if its not too difficult I may be interested.. Again, my apologies, I totally missed this thread. Current favourites with hardcore X-Fiers are the 6H1P-EB ( I keep them) and the 6H23-EB (you can get on ebay) Of the two the 6H23-EB are probably the warmer sounding so would suit you if you're looking for "smooth". You could also try the Electro Harmonix 6922, they're quite highly regarded too. The V3 is relatively easy to recap, for a beginner, thanks to the better quality pads it has (ie: they don't lift as easily as the V2's pads) but if you've never done any soldering before I'd recommend soldering / desoldering on an old board (you can get old radios and stuff at your local skip to practice on) Once you're comfortable with soldering / desoldering then put it to practice in your V3. Mike.

Thanks Mike. I'll need 2 AD826s and the IC sockets. I'll leave the choice of the best IC for the 826s to you. I'll PM you soon.

Thanks Mike, I have been practicing my soldering and its coming along ok.. I bought a flashing love heart from maplins!! Lol. I will probably order one of your kits if I go down this route. I would be doing a complete change though with new vavles and psu (are you going to do a DIY tutorial?) so it will have to wait till Im in my new house as my kit is packed up!
