Funny you should bring this up because I am determined at some point to make my own transport or I will never be truly happy My requirements are for top loading which i feel eliminates a weak spot-the CD tray/drawer.no matter what the data says no way something that moves can be as stable as a fixed mechanical device so a 1:1 CD to laser load or nothing. Second is my "quirky" sense of style.I really would like to emulate the 47 Labs Flatfish look which i find to be extremely attractive and the controls intuitive : Transport and DAC plus having a small footprint and external power supply also right in step with my ideas of "corect".I can understand the need for mass but why are CD players so damn BIG ? I'll tell you why....stackability even though most do not stack their audio componants and why the average mid level CD player case is nothing but empty space inside.I'm thinking small and solid makes much more sense. This is definately ME I also kind of like this look even though a bit too stripped down for my taste satisfies my need for wood, satisfies the form follows function, the small footprint, massive yet tidy, yet something is missing.Maybe a mongo-combo wood flatfish with a Mahogany top for a "total solution" all-in-one CD player this puppy is looking mighty good too : www.tentlabs.com/www.tentlabs.com/assets/Tentlabs%20newsletter%20September%202006.pdfwww.tentlabs.com/Products/diycd/assets/test%20CD%20speler%20ME%20UK.pdfnot exactly small but no wasted space just to do it either plus satisfies my need for top loading and my wood lust looks to be the best "kit" solution out there for a high end player finally, you want to see some all out DIY CD player work ? www.briangt.com/gallery/cdpro2Man,thse guys are way serious about their CD players.Far,far above my own patience "gotta get it done NOW dammit !" level that makes KISS essential or i lose interest and the project becomes a dust magnet .
