BD139/140pretty much my habitual transistor pair these days though there was a time when it was the MJE2955/MJE3055 pair being that they were easy to procure and relatively easy to use for anything up to around 2W Class-A bolted to the chassis as the heat sink (isolated )

Non ROHS BD139 / 140 only 12 pence each at Rapid... Packed with lead and an absolute giveaway @ 12p each I've bought up a good few for a rainy day Rapid are currently selling off all their leaded stock pretty cheaply so a great time to get a real bargain.
