I stumbled across this thread at diyAudio: www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79452&perpage=10&pagenumber=1It's a DIY DAC using eight TDA1541A DAC chips. There is no oversampling , but instead the eight DACs are run in parallel but time shifted, which as far as I understand it means that they are operating on different parts of the signal which has a similar effect to increasing the sample rate. Obviously I haven't heard it, but reading through the thread I was impressed with the attention to detail and the amount of testing that has been carried out during the development of the DAC, which looks to be nearing completion. Depending on the cost of the final kit/boards, and whether the completed DAC includes a USB interface, this may be what I'm loooking for.
