no real area in the profile for extensive equipment listing so a bit hard for members to know what other members use at home so most here do not know that my two main line stage/headphone amps are a cap coupled 5687 SRPP and a 6H30/12B4 CF/Sowter transformer coupled topology with the latter being my former favorite which is soon to change.
Mike knows I have been doing a lot of recent design work and I think I finally have my "final" answer to both a system gain stage, line driver and headphone amp nailed and it is about time.
I have made better stages suited to specific duties before but never one that in a single "box" does as much as good and this is one i will be taking to the limits then closing up and enjoying for the foreseeable future.
6N1P gain stage/6H30 "MU Stage" output driver section to Sowter transformer !
Selectable front end gain,SE/Follower/Dual stage selection or total bypass, pushing around 15dB total gain in the "high" setting, unity at the lowest point...fkn incredible dynamics plus all the detail I could want.........
I just hooked up my high current buffer to the output for chuckles and giggles to see how well it could drive a solid state amp input impedance, plugged in my RS-1's and damn near shit myself it sounded so good and that is in the rough breadboard state.
Looks like my time will be taken up getting this design optimal in both topology and layout, putting it all on a chassis then most likely blowing my head off with some AC/DC while everyone wonders just what the hell happened to me.
Imagine the headline in the town newspaper :
"Local man who should know better totally detonates his head listening to loud music that any normal person of his years should long ago have outgrown. The strange thing is all the pieces have not yet been found and being messy work volunteers hard to come by."
Plus it does not help that my former buddies will be watching the event, laughing at the cleanup crew like drunken idiots saying :
"OVER THERE ! YEAH THERE JERKY ! RIGHT AT YOUR DAMN FEET ! NO ? SURE LOOKS LIKE A CHUNK OF RICK'S BRAIN.CHEESE ? NO WAY MAN.ALL BRAIN CLEANUP DUDE" ;D
