As possible inspiration for me when I finish my next project - the dac-kit - what has anybody else constructed? I don't think my woodworking skills (or workspace to make such a mess) are up to loudspeakers, but it would be nice to hear what y'all get up to - amps, speakers, power supplies, filters, anything!
'Fess up now!

Quite honestly too much to list here Rod but recent audio projects have included: Several Chiarra / Andante kits Crossfeeds Several WNA kits 3 Wilmslow audio speaker kits A few PSU's Speakers have always been my great passion and I love building them from the ground up and then veneering them and finishing them off with varnish The last speaker kit I built was the "vogue" kit from Wilmslow audio, they sound absolutely awesome and leave anything I've heard in the shops for dead. Speakers are a great project to take on as you are doing woodwork, soldering, veneering, varnishing... the works....... (not just soldering a boring old PCB)and it's great fun experimenting with different flavours of caps in the crossover and different cabinet damping materials..... super fun ;D

Not a electric build but still in the process of finishing a enclosure for my Leak Troughline 2 tuner. Have made the enclosure and have been lacquering and sanding it for about the last 4 months, boy toughs brush stroke drive you mad. I am now on to plan Z and have bowered a spray gun off the father in-law. Used it for the first time last week, but the paint dripped, I am going out to the garage now to sand it down for about the 30th time and give it another go with the spray. As you can see, not see a join in sight, top and side have been sanded. Ho Hum

If the paint is dripping then you got to ease off the pain rich needle and up the thinner needle. All you need is the right amount of paint/laquer and the right amount of thinner...but this varies wildly with temperature and humidity so its an "art"....one that still evades me

To be honest I have now totally given up on the paint brush. I tried the spray gun yesterday and it looks the best it has done, but now it is a bit speckle as the paint/thinner mix is very hard to get right . Spray though is defiantly the way to go. I have been doing a web search and have found colour aerosol lacquer in the US, but not in the UK - as of yet. I think this is the way forward, will keep searching.

I was going to veneer my Leak enclosure, but could not track any down. I was told it dries up very easy so shops tend to not keep it? Is it quite easy to do or a bit of a pain. Kirk

Hmm, let's see...
I've built five or six CMoys of various configurations (right now working on one that uses an LM6172 dual opamp, it's quite a bit trickier than the other ones).
A lovely purpleheart woody PIMETA that's my main amp and is sitting on my Cambridge Audio CDP right next to my desk.
Several ICs and I'm working on a headphone cable for my DT440s (mainly because the stock cable is WAY too long and tends to get tangled around the wheels of my chair).
Next project? Probably an M^3 with STEPS in a parmetals case.

This is my first post on Mike's glorious rockgrotto and unfortunately I have to say that all I have built is a beer belly. Tempted by the DIY but lack totally the gear and knowledge. Where to start?

I started by building psus then a headphone amp, I followed that with several digital projects: a dac (burr brown pcm63) a digital enhancer to reduce jitter, a few digital clock circuits to modify my cd player, mods to the analogue stages, and a class A power amp.
On the go is another dac (24bit) and a rebuild of my class A amps using several mods to the original design and some better quality components

At the moment, only a cmoy. I've also changed the valves in my xcans. If were mentioning speaker builds then I've also done several fibreglass speaker enclosures/mounts for in-car use including one that needed quite a few layers!! Houses twin-8" subs sharing 1kw RMS. Rather new to DIY head hifi though.
