Check this out! www.eminent-tech.com/main.htmlClick on the TRW-17 picture for details. Perfect for use in conjunction with headphones! If this doesn't shake your booty, nothing will! It also gives a clean meaning to the expression "blow job".

I remember reading about this a while back. However I have never met someone who has one. Anyone here owns one?

Could even be cool for use with headphones. Those octaves are reserved for your body, not the ears..............
I do leave my subwoofer on sometimes when listening to my phones. It does increase the atmosphere appreciably.

how fast do it spin? does it work with cd? they don't go below 20hz.
how does it work? i find it hard to believe that it could actually mimic an instrument.... a pipe organ? is there anything to distinguish sound type at that frequency?

"does it work with cd? they don't go below 20hz." MERTON That is incorrect. There are many CDs that go down to 5HZ. THe notorious "Telarc-1812.." is one of them. They are mainly Audiophile discs. However, el cheapo CD players will not do them justice. SandyK

El cheapo CDs wont realistically go beneath 40hz actually. Nyquist theorem dictates you need more amplitude for lower signals for the same power meaning meaning everything else would have to be deadly quiet for a 20hz signal to be reproduced.

"meaning everything else would have to be deadly quiet for a 20hz signal to be reproduced."
Hence the prominent warning on such discs about carefully setting levels, and risk of damage to loudspeakers. When I originally bought my copy of that Telarc disc I found a huge deliberate "scratch" right across the disc. Seems like someone hadn't heeded the warnings ! They exchanged the disc, but it was obvious that the guy in the store didn't believe that they sold it to me like that.

Are these telarc disks those weird 20-bit CDs?

I have the Telarc on vinyl. Areal challenge for any pickup system!
Merton, I really believe that this works. It is basically a helicopter rotor tuned for audio frequencies. Using a fan means that they can go all the way down to DC and getting the propeller pitch to change up to about 40Hz is no big mechanical issue. The largest amount of musical information below 30 Hz are standing waves of large acoustical spaces. You may have noticed when you are in a large cathedral, you can feel the space even if there is no "noise". There is ALWAYS some soundwaves moving about. A proper low end can increase the realism of just about any recording just by giving you better image of the room!

This 1979 disc wasn't a 20bit sourced disc. The "Digital Cannons" are quoted as going down to 6HZ. No compression was used in the making of this disc.

I have a CD with a 2Hz sine wave on it (Philips Audio Signals Disc 1, track 7).
I think the computer drive would cope with a 5Hz signal OK, but the soundcard may have a highpass filter (DC filter) implemented that will block it. It probably depends more on the quality of the soundcard than the quality of the DVD drive. The same goes for standalone CD/DVD players - some will have a DC filter low enough to pass 5Hz whilst others won't.

"that's pretty wild! What about structural damage to your dwelling ?" hell yes it would unless you keep the SPLs down to a minimum ! Earthquakes are in the 2-5 Hz range so imagine what you can do with that sucker if it has the ultimate SPL output capability AND you have enough ampage to get you there Even though many low end "audio" transducers tout hitting ridiculously low levels the reality is you only need to hit 25-30 Hz @ -3dB relative to the mid-band level to achieve a "true" full frequency response in the home.the rest i leave to the "one uppers" who NEED to tell you how low their subs can go even IF they A-sound like crap B-require so much in room treatment they actually LOSE lower freq information C-can't keep a wife or Gf because they value wrecking the house (dishes, ashtrays, wall pictures, lamps, etc rattling away unless removed) and showing off to other "lonely" audiophiles rather than have enjoyable music in the home AND a life
